Question about 2004 Suzuki DL 650 V-Strom

1 Answer

The bike will not start. when the key is turned on I get all the normal functions but when i push the starter button nothing happens at the starter. I replaced the starter relay thinking that this was the problem because i could run a jump wire around it and the bike would start but when the new relay was installed no change resulted. any ideas ?

Dismantle the switch block on the right bar, make sure nothing has gotten in and blocked the circuit. In the past I have found an insect in there where it's wings blocked the switch. Clean the contacts and it should work.

Bike wont start, turn the key n everything lights up as normal, press the start button n just nothing

It could be the link from the starter button to the ignition coil. If you can check this for a current it should give an indication of the problem.

Where i can find elecrical wiring diagram

When you try to start the bike, does anything happen? Noises? Clicks? Or is it silent and nothing happens? If you hear a click or it try's to start but doesn't turn over. If nothing at all happens when you hit the start switch then you most likely have an electrical issue, versus if you hear the starter click or try to start to bike, then that would mean a mechanical issue.

I hooked up my working car battery to my bike to try and start the bike .. yes the bike battery is dead... ok i hold the clutch in, kick stand is up... my indicator lights are on... my headlights are...

Start by checking the starter button. It is a two function switch. It turns the headlight off and activates the solenoid. Try cleaning it , some disassembly may be required. If it is broken you may have to change the right switch assembly to fix the problem. Your dealing with some type of shorting or grounding in the switch, probably caused by corrosion from sitting in the weather outside.

When I turn on the ignition the oil and fuel light do not come on when I press the start button they do, also the rev counter needle flicks up and down as if it is resetting

Most Yamahas test the warning lights at either inital key on or pushing the starter button
(I have a 99 Venture...it does a couple on key on, then the rest pushing starter button, also the speedometer sweeps to verify functionality)....so you know the lights work.
Once running all warning lights should be off unless there is an issue.
Did you recently acquire bike or this light sequence wasn't happening and now is....?

I have a 2005 fatboy and i replaced the battery. when i hit the start button the starter relay clicks and nothing happens. all my lights work and the fuel pump kicks on like normal. it just wont start

Sound like starter is stuck. Try giving it a tap with a rubber mallet, while pressing start button. If this does not work, put bike in gear and push it forward a few feet, then try again to start it. If still nothing try using jumper cables on battery, then start. If no go you have a bad starter.

Having starter problems on 2002 Honda shadow 600cc. Batter is fully charged, lights work when key is turned on. Only clicking noise heard when starter button pushed. Able to push start, and runs...

check starter relay first this will be the part thats clicking and will have two thick battery leads on it,,,if you short across the two thick battery leads the starter should turn the engine over,,if this works change the relay,,if nothing happens when you short the two battery leads across then its a starter fault
