Question about 1983 Suzuki Tempter GR 650

Having trouble getting the 1983 Suzuki GR650 Tempter to start. Looking for wire diagram to make sure that I have all wire going to the right places.

Which model & year is your bike? wire spoked wheels or cast alumimium?
have manual on disk, can send you manual. There is more than one wiring diagram in the manual.

    1983 GR650, rebuilt starter, put it back together and rectifier smoked. Its a drag not know why it happened or how to fix it. I need wiring diagram to eliminate smoking the new rectifier. any help?

I have a 1983 gr650 tempter. The engines runs great sitting still. Hits rpms and sounds good. My problem is when I put it into gear, it spits and sputters and wont hit rpms. I'm lost.


Obviously something is wrong. Start simple check all routine maintenance items, empty the gas & save a sample from the bottom of the tank. Why? Ethanol/gas loves to absorb water from the air in as little as 1 month. Additives allow the water to mix with the fuel, it does not prevent it and it needs agitation to mix. So if your bike sits in a garage for 6 months waiting for good weather, you can expect to be running watered down fuel. It will sound like those lawn mowers that sputter and spit in the spring after sitting all winter. If you find water, even 1 drop, clean everything out: tank, fuel lines, fuel pump(if applicable), carb, and carb bowl if applicable. If all is well, do a compression test.

DRAIN THE OIL OUT OF THE ENGINE AND PULL THE COVER ON THE SIDE OF THE ENGINE THAT IS OPOSITE THE CLUTCH COVER.

Hello check your oil level also smell the oil for gas, has the bike been sitting for any long length of time.
Reason i ask this is and older bike and some times the fuel petcock goes bad and and fuel will weep into the crankcase overfilling the crankcase with fuel. plus your having carb problems worn needle seats Etc. carbs need cleaning. you need to check the fuel system from the fuel petcock and carbs.

Charging problems on my 1983 Suzuki GR650 tempter


The only easy way is for you to buy the service manual - it is pretty hard to tell you how to service your regulator if you don't know what it is...
And it is - or at least something in the charging circuit.
Early Suzukis had consistent charging problems, resulting in run-down batteries, short battery life, hard starting and frequent stator and regulator/rectifier replacement. Some of the problem is due to poor quantity or corroded electrical connectors, some to a poor ground to the regulator/rectifier and some just poor quality components or design. Keeping the connectors on the three stator wires clean and by running a heavy ground wire directly from the negative terminal of the battery to the regulator/rectifier mounting bolt will help.

Cylinder quits once I hit 60 km/h


ok clyinder quits meaning no spark check your magneeto it tells the coile when to spark it could be off just a little so at higher rpms it wants to cu out there is also a little resistor that might be starting to go bad. if you run it at higher rpms does it cut out? also you can check to see if the coile is getting power set you bike on a block let it hit 60 have some one keep it at 60 and check the coil that will let you know a lot more right there.
