Check the main fuse located on the starter solenoid. The positive battery cable goes directly from the battery to the starter solenoid. If the fuse on the solenoid burns you lose power to the whole bike.

My VTR 250 2003 won't start. The lights are all working when I turn it on but when I go to start it it turns over for a second then it's dead. whats up with that? Battery perhaps?

Very much sounds as though the battery is run down. In such a case you will se symptoms exactly as you are describing them, lights work but only cranks once. If you continue to try and start it, the bike will likely eventually die. It may be possible to push start your bike but your first destination after that should be a battery shop which will perform a free diagnostic of you electric system to make sure it's just the battery or if perhaps your alternator is failing to charge.

Hi there, I'm just wondering if someone could tell me how difficult it would be to remove the ignition barrel from my VTR 250, 2000. Would this be something i could do myself (i'm fairly competent) or...

You have to remove the top yoke invert it & drill out security bolts to replace

Hope this helps (if so please mark as very helpful)

My 88 vtr 250 makes one loud CLICK noise when i try to start the bike coming from the starter relay i bought a used one from ebay but same result ideas?

Start with making sure the battery terminals are clean. Then make sure the battery is fully charged. When that is in place try again, even if you jump it to another bike. Follow where the click is actually coming from, is it the relay or is it from the starter motor. Your problem is 98% caused but either a battery that is had it, (not holding charge) or a dicky starter motor. Having a manual will not go astray, I couldn't find one to suit your model, but you are welcome to fossick around. They are freebies:

1988 Honda VT250 Oil Pan.

It would be very unusual if it didnt, slight model changes rarely effect the basic engine set up. But, why dont you find a good boiler maker and get him to weld yours up. That is a simpler plan and it will still be your bikes part.

Check your stator or pickup coil, if you run with a low battery chances are that you have either one or both.
Hope this helps you.
