Sounds like the clutch is draging
check that there is not to much play in the clutch if there is take some of it out with the adjusters but leave some in it,,it must not be tight or it will start to slip

    hi its mike756 again!

ok if the clutch is ok and not to slack put her on her stand and put her in first gear,, not pull in the clutch and try to turn the rear wheel,,,if its stiff the clutch is still draging,,so look at this part first the plates may have warped some what,,,also what kind of oil do you have in the gear box? if its to thick or due for an oil change try a thiner oil,,,it could be the oil draging the gears around,,,,

i still put my money on the clutch!

Wont shift into second gear

have you the habit of shifting hard when taking off. it sounds and feels good banging a hard 2nd gear but that some times takes its toll.
could have bent a shifting fork in side the tranny or the powel needs attention hard to say but slamming gears to make it work is only making it worse, if you are not familiar with the inside of your tranny take it to a shop to day before you cause any more damage

Car doesn't kick down gear going up hills

A/T
The modern A/T has 4shift methods.
Foot (passing) called detent TV kick down cable.
the shift lever.
the Vacuum modulator (load, = hills)
and tail shaft RPM (speed)
so seems like the MOD on the A/T is bad.

Wont go in 2nd gear

If it will go into all other gears but not second, the transmission may have damage like a bent shift fork, damaged gears and/or shift drum. If the bike has been raced or accelerated hard and gear shifts have been missed, it most likely has transmission damage and the engine will have to come out and be torn down in order to repair. If the bike was hopping in and out of second gear before it stopped going into second, the transmission is most likely damaged.
One more thing to try is to take the shift lever and push momentarily down or up on the lever and see if it smoothly returns to its original center position. If it does return to the center position the lever is not sticking and ir it does not return to center position then the shift lever is sticking and that will keep the trans from up or down shifting.

Not shifting into passing gear

hi passing gear is actually your transmision drpping down to second gear.if you hit the gas hard.if you hit the gas lightly it will only drop out of overdrive and go into third and not go into passing gear.

Wont shift into low when stopping

well the taking off in second could be a sensor or vacume line...but when you step down on the gas real hard it is suppose to shitf to low that would be your kick down vacume line..

2000 VW Jetta squealing when shifting from 2-3rd and hard shift down when going up hill

hi if its just second to thrid then the clutch is slipping on thrid gear look at the boxes oil level is important but look at the colour is it red and tranperant as this is ok if its brown its a sign of the clutches slipping i would try a stall test on thrid gear first and if its ok second gear [manually] see is the engine stalls at the correct rpm if you thinkabout it imagine you are in thrid gear in a manuual box and suddenly drop into second it would be hard shifting it could also be a faulty thrid gear solenoid yates210456

Down shifting

if you are going to fast and down shift of course its a grind maybe your suppose to be on 4th gear not third gear so that means you need to shift to 3rd.
