Question about 2004 Suzuki SV 1000 S

1 Answer

Engine intermittenly revs above 7000

I replaced the air filter with a k&n and the thing has more power but still the same problem. Let me describe the problem in more detail. If I am approaching 7000 rmp in 4,5,or6 gear and I give it wide open throddle, the bike not only doesnt accelerate right away, it slows down for a moment, then, when I roll off the throddle it accelerates. I will change the plugs and let you know if that helped tomorrow. Thanks in advance. My bike is a Suzuki sv1000 with removed baffles

It is possible that the bike is running very lean in the top end, I would either get a Power Commander or get a tuning center to adjust the ECU with a Yoshi box or something similar. By the sound of it you are using aftermarket Pipes, this will cause a leaner mixture problem, then add to this a K&N filter which is free flowing will make the issue worse. The ECU is not self adjusting so it will only give you the fuel that is set by the factory. When you pull the Spark Plugs, see what color they are - White is lean, black is rich etc.

how many miles on the bike? there is also a manufacture recomendation for adjusting the tappet clearance on the valves. unproperly adjusted valves can cause lack of power. i also have a sv1000 with both an aftermarker exhaust (m4 dual switched to single) and a k

Another thing to check is the Throttle position sensor, if this is not working properly it will cause all the symptoms you described.

I got a 99 mazda millenia and it will start and run sometimes but it doesn't have no power to take off what's causing this

It could be anything. Is there a particular symptom. The above does not describe behaviour but the effect of the problem/ Does the car misfire, does it not rev.
Just from what is above I would say it needs a bit of garage attention.
You can clean/replace the spark plugs and check whether the air filter needs cleaning/replacing/ Check the distributor cap and plug cables. See if there is water in the oil.

Yes a clogged air filter will definitely reduce power at high revs. Rattling at high revs could be any single part that has loose mounting hardware, Check for loose bolts on all plastic pars and instruments. Could also be hand levers.

My tzr 3ma wont rev over 7000 rpm

Hi, Kevin and the usual suspects are:
1. Severely drained or faulty battery.
2. Faulty regulator/rectifier or high output coil.
3. Faulty power valve, solenoid or installation.
4. Clogged air filter or exhaust.
5. Cracked or incorrect float level.
6. Float needle is not seating.
7. Faulty reed valve.

My GSXR 750 J runs extreemly rough between 7000 and 9000 rpm. Its a mildly tuned engine with after market cams, a dynojet kit and I recently installed some inline fuel filters. The bike runs perfectly...

I would check and adjust the static ignition timing as if too far retarded it will tend to misfire at mid range revs. and suffer from lack of power at the top end.

My escape 2001 works well until the motor is at 3,500 rpm. when I accelerate from this point, it be clogged and misfiring.

first thing to do is change the air filter. even if they appear clean, they can restrict air flow enough to cause problems, especially under power at high revs.
if it will still not rev above 3500, then it may be a rev limiter, but try the air filter before worrying about anything else

Engine holds back/misfires at 6500 - 7000 rpm and struggles to rev higher. Occurs hot or cold and in dry weather.

Try to replace the fuel filter; sounds like a fuel problem, if it still gives you a problem check the air filter as well., first pull plugs and check if they are burned out or fowled out, what color is the spark plug? It should be white to brownish ash, if it is black and sooty then it's to rich if the gap is to wide then it's running to lean replace the spark plugs or re-gap them, the plugs are the cheapest thing to replace and can fail and cause the condition your describing, If it is clean then try adjusting fuel mix,if you need more help post here and I will try to answer any question you might have. Thanks for using fix-ya and please rate, as this is a free question and since I am a mechanic it takes me time to post this stuff. Thanks.

Bike will start &idle & rev but when ridden misfires &won,t rev above 3000

its either fuel or air, check the air box under the seat, clean the filter, then check the fuel filter. If this doesnt work I would say you have dirt in your carb main jet.

Engine knock at high revs

Sounds like Pre-ignition, aka Detonation, aka Engine knock. Carbon deposits build up on the head, valves and piston. They can get hot enough to ignite the fuel before the spark plug has a chance to. This is the Pre-ignition noted above. This is VERY hard on the engine. Take the head off the cylinder then beat the valve area with with a hammer followed by aggressively beating the top of the piston. Pre-ignition does the same thing. Not good for the top end, and not good for the crankshaft. Use only good quality premium gas. Change to a spark plug one heat range colder than the stock plug. Seal up any air leaks on the intake system. Running a lean fuel mix means running hot.

A “very helpful” rating for this answer? Thanks!
