How do you change the rear brake pads?

I have changed many brakes before, but never on this Buell. Are there any tricks, secrets, known issues or problems?

Removing the front fender can make it easier to get the caliper off of and back onto the wheel by letting the fork end rotate.

What's wrong I just changed my rear pads on my 2008 Mercedes c-300 and after driving about 200 feet. The BRAKE Ebs, Abs, and Esp inoperative. It initially was just brake pad wear

DIYer? There is probably a "reset" in the computer system when pads are changed. It may be an MB trade secret for the prevention of liability issues.

Brakelight does not come on when front brake applied

Hi Anonymous, a brake light staying on is usually caused by the front brake light switch, witch is mechanical, not disengaging. On early models moving the throttle control housing closer to the front brake master cylinder is the main fix. On late models, the switch gets tweaked and needs to be realigned. A brake light that does not come on when the brake lever is applied can be caused by a faulty switch or no continuity in the wiring at the switch. The rear brake light switch is hydraulic and it is extremely rare to malfunction in a closed circuit condition causing the brake light to stay on. Usually rear brake light switch issues are caused by no brake pedal free play or a sticky rear master cylinder piston. A brake light that does not come on when the rear brake pedal is depressed can be caused by a faulty switch, air in the brake line, or no continuity in the wiring at the switch. Hi I am trying to find out the OEM specifications for my 99 Buell Cyclone. Front and rear brake disc oem thickness and front and rear brake pad thickness

You can usually look on the rotor and find the min. The specs are not usually published (they don't want someone making a 'better' product). Pad thickness is really not something you see published, one more often then not judges if the pads need replacement (along with the rotors) by wear and remaining usable materail. Hope this helps.

Changing the rear brake pads on 91 mu

Chalk the front wheels, car is on jackstands i hope, release the handbrake, use the old pad with a c- clamp to compress the pistion on the caliper, install new pads. may have to take the cap off the master cylinder, if none of this works, open the bleeder valve, and compress the piston, rebleed the caliper.

Rear brake is weak.

but i wiped it all down and the oil would be gone by now anyway. I checked the brake fluid and its okay.  The whole brake assembly shifts a little. The disk and pads are still thick. Any ideas? If you dripped oil on em it's not very likely you got it off. Oil impregnates brakes really bad and is hard/impossible to get out of them. Take them off and spray them with brake cleaner that'll be your best chance. It might still be a good idea to replace them though. Have you overheated them really bad recently? That can boil your fluid and get air in it.,,
