Question about 1995 Honda CB 250 Nighthawk

1995 honda nighthawk - the battery discharges while riding, it will not start with the starter button. with the battery removed, the engine will run on the alternator, but the headlamp dims as engine revolutions increase. At idle the headlamp is very bright., at 3000 it is not on at all.

Have a 1984 honda night hawk turn key nothing happens check the fuses all good ?


Hi, Ralph and the usual suspects are:
1. Ignition Switch not in the "ON" position.
2. Engine Run Switch in the "OFF" position.
3. Discharged battery, needs to be 12.5 volts or better and be able to pass a load test if necessary, check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
4. Bank angle sensor tripped and ignition/light key switch not cycled to the "OFF" position and then back to the "ON" position.
5. Faulty starter button/switch.
6. Faulty jiffy stand or clutch pull in switch/sensor.
7. Security alarm needs a reset.
8. Starter control circuit, relay, or solenoid faulty.
9. Main fuse or circuit breaker may be blown or faulty.
10. Electric starter shaft pinion gear is not engaging or over-running starter clutch slipping.

My 2005 Honda cbr 600rr won't start i was riding it when it just stopped running no power I replaced the siloniod now it lights up but when you turn the power button on it shuts down everything ?

I have a 1993 honda cb 250. Battery was dead and dead but i could jump start it and or push and pop clutch and get it going. I got a new battery and installed correctly but will not hold charge.


Check and see if magneto is charging.
my just be putting out enough to run lights.
or there is a diode that prevents it from discharging.
after riding make sure there is enough charge to start the bike. Disconnect the battery, come back in the morning if the battery starts bike then the diode is probably shot and allowing magneto to discharge battery

Hi, Anonymous before testing any electrical component in the Starting System it is "IMPERATIVE" that you have a fully charged battery of 12.5 volts or more and be able to pass a proper "LOAD" test if necessary, you may have a preliminary reading of 12.5 volts or more but little or zero amperage, the battery is faulty and must be replaced. AGM type batteries fall into this scenario more so than lead acid batteries.
1. Ignition Switch not in the "ON" position.
2. Engine Run Switch in the "OFF" position.
3. Check the battery terminals for damage or corrosion check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter.
4. Bank angle sensor needs a reset or is faulty.
5. FOB battery low or dead.
6. Faulty ignition switch.
7. Faulty starter button.

2001 750 nighthawk, starter will spin engine but it will not start. Kill switch maybe?


You should get nothing to the engine if the kill switch is in the no run position. It sounds to me like you are saying the starter is running but not engaging with the engine. This condition is typically the result of (a) low battery (b) weak spring on the starter. First thing to check is the voltage at the battery, start solenoid and then the starter. If voltage is good ... 11 or more volts, suspect the starter.
How old is the battery, BTW? Original? Batteries are typically good for up to 5 years ... let me repeat ... UP TO five years. Check all connections for tightness and that are all clean.

95 Honda Nighthawk 750 will not start--only clicks, even with new battery


If you are hearing a click and the battery and cdi box are good, than it is most likely you solenoid. Try tapping on the solenoid while try to start it. You can also try to run battery cables straight to solenoid to make sure it is not the starter swtich. You can also use a screwdriver and jump it across solenoid terminals and see if it turns over that way.

Double check all cables are clean and in perfect metal to metal contact.
