You will have to remove the exhaust from the head
if there is any of the stud left protruding from the head there is a tool that you can buy from your automotive spare parts dealer to remove the remaining stud
If no part of the stud is protruding you will have to drill a hole in the centre of the stud and use an easy-out to remove it, use some penetrating oil first to loosen any corrosion etc

Hi Bob, Well the usual suspects are blown head gasket, bent or sticky valve, and piston rings. Are you smoking out of the rear cylinder exhaust pipe? Does the engine make any abnormal noise in the top end? How much differance is there between the front and rear cylinder? Good luck

Oil drain plug on a 2001 electra glide


check under the frame near the back on the exhaust side of the frame, it is a hex head bolt with a allen key hole in the middle on my 2000 fatboy but not sure where yours will be.

2003 harley davidson full dresser back fires or pops sound on the left side pipe when i let go the the gas handle at around 2000rpms it all started when i had new cams put in


Popping sound at the exhaust is usually due to a very lean setting which causes unburnt fuel to burn late in the exhaust pipe and happens when you are going at a high rpm with a closed throttle making it even leaner. My bike had the same problem and most Harleys are factory tuned lean which is very bad as the engine runs hot. After putting free flow Rhinehart pipes like i did, it became worst so i installed the Vance & Hines fuelpak and now my bike runs so silent and cooler. A great difference from before.

How to remove a 2004 electra glide starter


1. Remove seat.
To protect against accidental start-up of vehicle, disconnect the negative battery cable before proceeding. Inadequate safety precautions could result in death or serious injury.
2. Unthread bolt and remove battery negative cable (black) from battery negative (-) terminal.
3. Remove the primary chaincase cover.
4. Bend tab on lockplate away from head of jackshaft bolt.
5. Holding pinion gear to prevent rotation, remove the jackshaft bolt with lockplate and thrust washer.
6. From right side of motorcycle, remove starter front mounting screw with lockwasher. Remove rear mounting screw with lockwasher (and battery negative cable ring terminal). Remove Keps nut from stud of bracket tab and remove exhaust support bracket.
7. Pull back rubber boot and remove flange nut from starter post. Remove main power and battery positive cable ring terminals from starter post.
8. Depress external latch and pull solenoid connector from top of starter housing.
9. Locate oil filler plug/dipstick on right side of motorcycle at top of transmission case. To remove the oil filler plug, pull steadily while moving plug back and forth.
10. Remove the starter from the right side of the motorcycle, carefully sliding it through the space between the exhaust pipe and side cover.
NOTE: If necessary, remove Allen screw and decorative chrome
cover to facilitate starter removal.
11. Remove the coupling from the starter motor output shaft, if necessary.

Harley torque specs


Tighten the top nut of the front cylinder head exhaust flange to 9-18 in-lbs (1-2 Nm), then tighten the bottom nut to 100-120 in-lbs (11.3-13.6 Nm), final tighten the top nut to 100-120 in-lbs (11.3-13.6Nm), then tighten the bottom nut of the rear cylinder head exhaust flange to 9-18 in-lbs (1-2 Nm), tighten the top nut to 100-120 in-lbs (11.3-13.6 Nm), then final tighten the bottom nut to 100-120 in-lbs (11.3-13.6Nm), tighten the transmission exhaust bracket clamp bolt to 60-96 in-lbs (6.8-10.8 Nm), tighten the two bolts with lockwashers, tighten the four TORCA clamps to 45-60 ft-lbs (61- 81 Nm) in the following order, crossover pipe to left side muffler, then rear header pipe to right side muffler, then front header pipe to rear header pipe, then rear header pipe to crossover pipe, tighten the Keps nut securing the bracket tab to the exhaust support bracket, open the worm drive clamps and install the six heat shields onto the exhaust pipes positioning each clamp so that the screw is on the outboard side in the most accessible position and then tighten them to 20-40 in-lbs (2.3-4.5 Nm).

Torque specs for a 2005 Electra glide


Hi Anonymous, and your torque specs are:
1. 1/4" bolts 10 ft lbs.
2. 5/16" bolts 20 ft lbs.
3. 3/8" bolts 35 ft lbs.
4. 7/16" bolts 55 ft lbs.
5. 1/2" bolts 75 ft lbs.

I have a 2006 FLHTCUI and want to instal a set of Bub Rinehart 2 into 1 exhaust. I would like to know the "ft lbs" / "in lbs" of torque for the flanges. I also have a Screaming Eagle stage 1 intake and...


The torque for the flange nuts is 100-120 in-Ibs. The Ride Plus is a preloaded tuner that allows you to switch between a economy map and a performance map. If you are looking for the most power out of your Rinehart I would recommend a PowerCommander or HDs SuperTuner and have a dyno run.
