2003 LOW RIDER, BEEN SITTING FOR 9 MONTHS AND WHEN RIDING IT SPUTTERS AND BACKFIRES WHEN DOWN SHIFTING, CHANGED PLUGS ?

I'd go buy a can of that "in the tank" carburetor and fuel injector cleaner and pour some in the fuel tank along with some fresh fuel. If this doesn't clear up your problem. A complete disassembly and cleaning of the carb may be called for.

Recently changed spark plugs on 2003 kia spectra. Afterwards it started to sputter at low rpms. I changed fuel filter and it still sputters. When moving and over 1000 rpm it runs fine. What do I do?


get urself a can of carb cleaner...brake cleaner...whatevers clever
with the car running spray it over vac maf sensor...until you hear the engine bog down. now you found ur vac leak or anything else and leaking.

2003 dyna low rider high speed engine cut out issue


Hi Anonymous, and the usual suspects are:
1. Spark plugs in bad condition or partially fouled.
2. Spark plug cables in bad condition or leaking.
3. Spark plug gap to close or to wide.
4. Faulty ignition coil, module and or sensor.
5. Battery nearly discharged.
6. Damaged wire or loose connections at battery terminals,
ignition coil, or plug between ignition sensor and module.
7. Intermittent short circuit due to damaged wire insulation.
8. Water or dirt in fuel system, carburetor or filter.
9. Fuel tank vent system plugged or carburetor vent line closed off.
10. Carburetor controls misadjusted.
11. Damaged carburetor.
12. Loose or dirty ignition module connector at crankcase.
13. Faulty MAP, CKP, and or CMP sensors.
14. Incorrect valve timing.
15. Weak or broken valve springs.
16. Damage intake or exhaust vale.

Rider...stalls after running a few min.. plug


maybe need to put a full kit through carb. and replace few worn parts ie. float needle and seat. throttle needle and seat etc

I have a 2003 softail standard, hard staring, backfires through the EFI, and sputters when I try and ride it


Hi Scottynukem, and the usual supects are:
1. Spark plugs are in bad condition, improper gap, partially fouled.
2. Spark plug cables in bad condition.
3. Battery nearly discharged.
4. Loose wire connection at one of the battery terminals especially the ground cable at both ends,coil, or plug between the Ignition Sensor and Control Module.
5. Throttle controls not adjusted correctly.
6. Water or dirt in fuel system/tank
7. Water or dirt in carburator.
8. Intake air leak.
9. Fuel tank vent hose and vapor valve plugged, or fuel line closed off, restricking fuel flow.
10. Inrichner valve inoperative.
11. Engine lubricant to heavy (winter operation).
12. Ignition not functioning properly possible faulty CKP, CTS or MAP sensor.
13. Faulty ignition coil.
14. Valves sticking.

Bike wants to stall out and backfires alot

6. Damaged wire or loose connections at battery terminals especially the negative cable at "BOTH" ends, ignition coil, or plug between ignition sensor and module.
7. Intermittent short circuit due to damaged wire insulation.
8. Water or dirt in fuel system, carburetor or filter.
9. Fuel tank vent system plugged or carburetor vent line closed off.
10. Carburetor controls misadjusted.
11. Damaged carburetor or intake seals.
12. Loose or dirty ignition module connector at crankcase.
13. Faulty MAP, CKP, and or CMP sensors.
14. Incorrect valve timing.
15. Weak or broken valve springs.
16. Damage intake or exhaust valve.
