How do I determine if my clutch is bad or it is the presure plate

How do I determine if my clutch is bad or it is the pressure plates?
I have a 97 fatboy and after it gets heated up the clutch will not disengage. Or it slips real bad. I already adjusted the clutch center bolt to the manual specs. Don't know what to do next?

This is strange. I've seen clutches drag and I've seen them slip but never both. If I had to take a guess, and that's exactly what this is, I'd guess that it was either something with the clutch cable or the release mechanism on the right side of the tranny. Evo clutches are very good clutches as compared to the earlier ones.

Good Luck

How to remove clutch plate with out removing presure plate

It won't fall out, it is to wide. You should replace the pressure plate and have the flywheel surfaced with this job. I replace the master and slave also, if you have them.

What causes that sound coming from the clutch side like that of a worn sprocket gear when you trail at low speed.

Hi,it could be that your thrust bearing is whereing out,its the bearing that when you put your foot on the clutch pedle it connects with the presure plate that lets the clutch plate have movement to spin, like aney bearing can where out, unless clutch is ferly new you should replace the free parts,
but of coures only if it gets worse
hope this was some help.

Clutch , presure plate and gearbox remove

You need the right equipment and knowledge to do this job there are a lot of cables wires etc that need to be removed before the gearbox can be loosened and removed.
There are also a lot of special tools required and the job is best done on a ramp or pit to gain access.
Trying to do this on the ground would be difficult and very dangerous also the engine needs to be suspended when the gearbox mounts are removed.
It is impossible to remove the clutch pressure plate, plate and hydraulic bearing on the C4 without removing the gearbox.
Take it to a garage/ clutch specialist.

We've had our clutch replaced with a new after market clutch; should it feel lighter underfoot now or the same as usual? We also had the Master Cylinder changed too, but the Slave Cylinder is still the...

should feel about the same but when you have a leak (even small) it will feel light a the presure is not their correctly. if the presure plate was bad the gears would gring between shifting and would be
difficault to shift with out grinding gears.

I have a 97 passat TDI and the clutch pedal will stick to the floor from time to time when it does i either have to pry it up with my foot or reach down and pull it up by hand.....Any help would be great.

this case means the pressure plate have problem and very soon you have to replace it , anther case if you use or add. different liquids Dot3 instead of dot4 or if you have leakage inside near clutch pedal replace only clutch master upper , if you did not add. replace pressure plate and clutch plate inside .

Renult megane o3-19-DCI Replacing clutch plate dont know which side to presure plate.

look at the clutch plate centre hub. The side which fits to the pressure plate is generally raised further than the side which fits to the flywheel side if you have the old pressure plate and clutch plate, look at the pattern on the clutch plate, it will be emulated on the pressure plate..

Hope that you have had the flywheel 'skimmed' to ensure good contact with the clutch plate. It would be a good thing to also check the spigot or nose bearing / bushing in the flywheel. All should be replaced as a set, pressure plate, spigot bearing, clutch plate, release / throwout bearing and the flywheel skimmed.or replaced if necessary.

Happy motoring.

Where is the torque converter and drive plate on 97 eclipse gst manual transmission.. so i may markmatch it before removing the tranny

hi, if you have a manual gearbox then you dont have a torque converter a torque converter is what changes the gears in an automatic gearbox as your is manual all you will have inside your gearbox is a pressure plate a clutch plate and a thrust bearing witch operates the clutch when you press the pedal down.
The only thing you need to line up on a manual box is when you have fitted the new clutch you need to have a tool that holds the clutch plate central so that when you tighten the bolts up on the pressure plate the clutch stays central if you dont do this you wont be able to get the gearbox back onto the engine as the spline from the gearbox wont be able to go through the center of the clutch into the engine.

You can make or use you own tool to hold the clitch dead center as long as its a good fit and about the same size as the spline, so once you have the new clutch in and the pressure plate loosely bolted on you can still move the clutch around behind the pressure plate now right in the center their is a hole in the pressure plate and the clutch plate this is where the tool needs to be put so that the clutch plate remains dead center whilst you tighten the pressure plate up this will then make sure that the spline on the gearbox lines up properly not doing this will make it impossible to get the gearbox on properly.

Let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok

Clutch pedal too hard too push in 94 might max

Bad presure plate. The clutch is made up of two parts, the clutch disk and the presure plate. as the vehicle gets older the pressur plate can bend making it imposible to push the pedal in. This is very common if your vehicle has a clutch cable as compared to a hydrolic clucth but happens with both just the same. The solution is replace the clutch.
