Question about Motorcycles

I need to know where the main fuse is located The bike will not start and I had the battery checked at two different places and it is fully charged. No power to the cyclenoid andi have checked the starter and it is good. The light will not come on either.

Recheck the battery conections, undoing them clean them and then replace them, it may be that when you put the battery on charge if you didnot remove it from the bike you may have blown the main fuse, this is not the fuse located in the fuse box, it is the fuse located at the starter solenoide, follow the poss red wire from the battery to the solenoide, here you will find where the wires attach to the solenoide, a fuse located under a plastic cover, supplys ignition power, i trust you have done a thorough test on the battery. ? I am not totally familiar with this bike, but I do have several bikes of my own. If you have a fully charged battey, but no power at the starter motor this sound like a fuse has "blown". Try and switch your lights on or sound your horn, if these still work then it is likely to be an in-line fuse, if these don't work then it is likely that the main fuse has "blown", this is usually located near to the battery. You will need to check your wiring harness and you will find any in-line fuses. If there are no in-line fuses then there will be a fuse box somewhere on your bike.

If you do find a faulty fuse, you need to try and find out why. They only "blow" when they are overloaded. This is by design so that they protect major parts from being damaged. It may be as simple as you have a broken wire going to earth.

Clicking on start up, battery fully charged, headlight flickers, fuel pump starts then clicks, no start


check battery voltage while cranking, check battery leads and earth wire, sometimes a fully charged battery, if its getting old, still will not start the bike, will it start with jumper leads? The clicking is usually low voltage.

?.....was the bang when you tried to start the bike...or as you turned ignition on?...if when you turned ignition on sounds like you need to check wireing...if bang was when you truned eneing over it could be unburt petrol that banged when bike tried to fire up !!...

1. Battery Voltage. - Key off: between 12 - 13VDC.
2. Key off Amp Draw - At the main fuse: < (less than) 1ADC

3. Key on Amp Draw - At the main fuse: Results will vary because of different loads.
*Note - DO NOT START THE BIKE WITH YOUR METER IN PLACE OF THE MAIN FUSE! Also, if you can not access the main fuse, put your positive meter lead on the red wire at the solenoid, and put your negative meter lead on the positive battery lead. This way you will be able to get your amperage readings AND let you start the bike without blowing your fuse.* Charging amperage should be at least 1 ADC

4. Break even speed - The RPM in which the charging voltage at the battery turns positive - Should be before Idle

5. Charging voltage at the battery - Between 13 - 15 VDC.

First of all, when boost starting a bike from a auto make sure the auto is NOT running. The auto battery has more than enough power all by itself.

The most likely is 4) None of the above. The truck's charging system put more than 30 amps into the bike's electrical system and blew the fuse.

Get a new bike battery and fully charge it. Then go from there. If you really want to see if the bike will run before buying a new battery go ahead and hook up the cables to the truck battery and try it with the truck off.

A faulty alternator/regulator/rectifier should have no effect on the bike actually starting or turning over. Only the output of the charging system would be affected, possibly causing the bike to die when the cables are removed. My '78 Honda would not run at all without battery power, not sure if the Kawasaki is the same or not.

Initially, have you checked the 30 Amps main fuse and its holder clips? It would be integrated with the starter relay. The fuse or the fuse holder may have heat related problem(s) causing it to loose conductivity when hot.The fuse may require replacement even if it tests good and/or the fuse holder would need cleaning / crimping. To locate the starter relay (main fuse), follow the battery cable from the + terminal of the battery.

check that it is fully charged as some new batt arnt charged failing that check the starter fuse next to the battery should be a 30amp fuse

Starting problem


new spark plugs also tested that coil is sparking side stand is not down and it does have fuel. Can anyone help me with Cagiva River 500 starting prob?separate the multi plug that the sidestand switch connect to and use a small piece of wire to bridge one side to the other......if the bike spins over then at least that's one problem area fathomed out. If the bike fails to spin check the main fuse that sits in the starter solenoid, this can be found by tracing the pos wire from the battery back to the next place it bolts too, this is the starter relay. On this is usually about a 30amp fuse, check it hasn't blown as its the first to go pop usually.,,,
