97 Chrysler.cirrus starts runs good, when you shut it off it won restart unless it sets for about an hour. Head lights, over head light, Windows ,dash light all work ,but it won't crank over.

Starter motors and solenoids often sieze when hot towards the end of their service life. You may need to replace the starter. How many times will it start in a row Without running it long enough to heat up. If it will start four or five times cold then fail after warming up and the alternator is charging the battery at 13.5- 15 volts you got a bad starter.

Do the gauges and warning lights work with key on? If not, check fusible links, AM1 for ignition key power. If the gauges/warning lights work, the key switch has power, so you can follow it to the starter solenoid. The start wire out of the ignition switch is a black/white wire, this is the hot wire to the solenoid, and only has power when key is held in start. With automatics, there is only one switch-a neutral start switch- between the ignition switch and the solenoid on the starter .

With a manual transmission, the black-white start wire goes to both a starter relay and a clutch start switch (on the clutch pedal), those two work together to send the power on to the starter solenoid. So, no crank, good battery, power to key, follow the black/white wire, the start relay and the clutch switch, to the starter solenoid- a hot wire there turns the starter motor on.

1999 vw passat turbo wont crank or turn lights on

- Switch on the head lamps for 5 minutes.
- Keeping the head lamps ON, start the engine.
If the lights die,
- Check the battery terminals.
- Check battery state of charge.
- Charging system.
If the lights still glow sharply,
- Check fuses and relays in under the hood fuse and relay box junction.
- Battery to starter motor cable.
- Battery to engine ground and chassis ground cable.
- Solenoid on starter motor.
- Starter motor.
- Wiring.
-Ignition switch.

suspect battery problems. THe positive terminal developes a hard black coating inside the lead terminal and around the battery post Remove this using rough sand papaer to a shiny finish on both units . Repeat the operation on the negative terminal. Try the starter again. If still nothing turn on the head lights try again noticing if the head lights go dim. IF they do check if the battery is charged OK then you have a problem in the starter motor IF it works some times and not at others you probably have a dead bar on the communator which means a replacement s-motor

When I turn on the key the lights do not come on. I still have the side markers and directionals along with the tail light.

Check your fuses first. Replace the light fuses just in case the fuse has an internal break that is not visible. Take apart your right switch assembly. Clean and inspect the starter button. It performs two functions. First, it turns off the head light to send more power to the starter and ignition. Second, it closes the contacts on the starter solenoid to power up the starter motor. Often a dirty or melted starter button is to blame for head light problems. Double check that the wiring inside your head light bucket has not come loose or disconnected. Good Luck.

Car wont turn over to start but light on dash light up. not the battery all wires from starter motor ok.

You say it is not the battery, so I will assume that it is either new or you had it load tested. When you say the light on the dash light up do you mean all the dash lights, radio, and head light works? If there is no cranking it is most likely the starter is bad.
