Clutch replacement Occasionally the clutch slips in the lower gears, but not consistently. Coul that mean some wear on some or all of the plates and friction plates? From what I have researched, it doesn't look like a difficult job. It's for a 1999 Vulcan 800 Classic Vulcan

Harley transmission slipping

Sounds like a clutch problem - the only thing that transfers drive from the engine to the rear wheel that can slip excessively is the clutch - other components can wear but not slip.

I know a huge amount of the Harley range use dry clutches not oil bath types like jap bikes.

Saying that it means its like a car clutch - these types of clutches do not like any abuse as they over heat and wear very quickly reesulting in slipping - as you are describing.

A oil bathed clutch shares the oil in the engine and has friction plates like an automatic gear box - because of the oil that can cool the clutch plates they last pretty much forever and don\'t wear from abuse.

Look at your clutch.

Freelander clutch

check out the operation of the clutch system .IT is difficult to rationalise a hydraulic clutch because if it is slipping that means that the pressure plate is being held off and not fully engaging but it also means that when pressing on the clutch the there would be no problem changing gears . But if you have a cable clutch operation then it is possible that the cable is jamming inside the outer cover and holding the pressure plate off ( slipping) and gear problems. If it is cable then replace the cable first. If hydraulic then it may mean box out for a new clutch kit.

If your clutch is not slipping check your shift linkage joints. Rocking the bike lets you know your tranny has gears but the shifter pawl may need adjustment

How do I change hydraulic clutch on chevy s10 1996?

If it's the clutch slipping, has nothing to do with the master or slave cylinders, you need to replace the disc and pressure plate.Meaning the transmission has to come out.Just jumping out of second gear means it wasn't all the way into second. You bette rod some more testing, like hold the brake when you let the clutch out.If the car don't move, replace the clutch disc and pressure plate. If the engine stalls whenyou let the clutch out, theres nothing wrong with your clutch, but rev the engine a bit when you do this.

I have a 1999 chevy s10 2.2l 5 speed that in lower gears it seems to slip and i don't know if it needs to be bleed or what?

Dont need to be bleed . if that was the case the clutch would not release and stay on all the time
sounds like the clutch disc is wearing out and beginning to slip in the lower gears (they have higher toqure in these gears to get the truck to start moving ) which means they put a hevey load the disc and presure plate assembly .

Is there an adjustment the clutch is slipping in 3rd 4th gears Or do you just have to replace 2004 aeiro suzuki

lower gear ration in higher gears, like climbing a hill, lessens the mechanical advantage and causes the slippage which will soon be in lower gears too. Clutch is hydraulic, not adjustable, you need a clutch replacement, along with all the other wear parts in the bell housing.

Second gear slip fj11

1. If second gear is acting like in and out of gear under load the gears are worn needing replacement engine removal and lower end work.
2. If your accelerating and the engine begins to accelerate steadily to a point that your motorcycle is not reacting along with the engine you have a slipping clutch. If this is the problem replace the clutch plates and springs.

While riding, the 4th and 5th gears do not engage promptly when you clutch and shift the gear. It sort of goes into neutral as one disengages the clutch and accelerate and then falls in place (ie 4th or...

This behavior is the symptom that your clutch plates are getting worn out. Since power is transmitted from the cam shaft to the front sprocket (smaller dia) is better at lower gears but once the rpm increases the clutch plates do not catch up with the cams rotation, hence slipping at higher gears & in between 4th & 5th gears the pulling power of the engine seems to go to neutral before engaging again. Check your clutch plates as well as the sprocket-chain- rear sprocket for wearing out of the gear teeth & replace if required. You will get back full power & acceleration as when the bike was new.............sodeep

Clutch Sometimes Slipping in 4th and 5th gears!

Hi Jackiaria

Unfortunately you have a hydraulic clutch, which is self adjusting on your car.

The problem you are experiencing is the excessive wear to your clutch, or oil contamination on the clutch plate.

Both these problems can only be fully diagnosed once the gearbox is removed and the clutch is inspected.
There is also a possibility of excessive wear, or scoring, on the flywheel surface, the longer you drive the vehicle with a slipping clutch, possibly requiring the flywheel to be skimmed.

Shop around for a best price, and a trustworthy garage !

Good Luck !

A FixYa rating would be Nice....Thanks.....John.

Slipping clutch

clutch basketYou will need the fibre clutch plates and I would be replacing the clutch springs because the 400 had weeker springs than the 450 (04YM). Also check if the metal plates are blue this is a sign they are bernt and they may need replacing if it has been slipping for a period of time. Use 10w 40 oil. Motul or Motoex oil they are good and go genuine some non genuine plates can swell and cause drag. Sometimes the basket may have small wear marks on the fingers. If it has you can clean them up with a file but dont take to much off. The only other reason you would replace the basket is if the damper rubbers between the basket and big gear are worn.Try and move the gear and hold the basket, if the gear moves the dampers are worn and need replacing, I think you can get the dampers seperate. If you go to a good Gas Gas dealer you wont get riped off, I would take your plates in and ask for the mechanic for advice and not the parts person.,,,
