Have you check the choke position?
When you got it going does it rev up high immediately, if yes then you choke is stuck wide open.
Good enough?

Hi, John your throttle cables may be out of adjustment, you have pinched or kinked the cables either at the steering neck area or in between the tank and frame area or the cables are dry and clogged with dirt and or rust for more information about your question and valuable "FREE" downloads that you will need please visit the websites below. Why is my Yamaha Banshee is hard to start

It looks like your compression is too low (worn rings from dusted motor) Push starting spins the motor faster than kick starting and when hot the rings expand just enough to seal off. Before kicking a cold motor try putting in a squirt or two of engine oil in the plug hole to see if there is a difference.

I was wondering what kind of jets and needles I should put in my 99 yamaha banshee after I just rebuilt it. It is bored 80 over, has fmf pipes. what would be a good jet to start with?

whatever a professional manual or pro sez-jets are a delicate thing cause you cud end up rebuildin again--the web n fixya has books or getta hold of a motocrosser

Yamaha banshee will not start

Did you accidentally cross the spark plug wires?
Other wise its going to be hard to diagnose,
Do you have plenty of compression,
Are you getting gas to the spark plugs?
Is the air filter clean/new?
You will need a factory service manual to diagnose further if all the above is ok

My 80 cc sputters for a couple seconds then clears up under throttle.doesn't matter what gear I am in even nuetral.could it be bad gas?

could be bad gas but my banshee did the same thing and i replaced the reeds and she screamed again try some fresh gas a new plug and new reeds also check out the needle and seat in the carb as i have had bikes act this way and they cleared up with a basic carb rebuild

Have a 04 yamaha big bear 400. hard to start wont stay running unless chock is on spits and sputters and ocacionaly back fires. when try to throttle it it boggs through intake.

I have an 01, and it started doing this. I don't remember the circumstances. It's just dirty in the carb I think.

1) Check for water in the gas.
2) Turn off the petcock and drain the carb. turn it back on.
3) Try it.
4) Start it with the choke on and put your hand over the air filter hole. Will cause some back flow.
5) Try again.

Worked for me. Might be dirtier on yours, or have mud in it or something.

Banshee running wide open after a couple of revs

The problem with vents is that a vent can get plugged and lessen or completely kill the flow of fuel. They will not make an engine rev wildly. Your banshee has standard carbs. The throttle cables may be routed incorrectly, pinching or stretching the cables. Remove the air filters. Look inside the carbs. Do the slides move freely up and down when the throttle is twisted? In the diagram below note the junction tube on the throttle cabel. The cable can stick at inside the tube. Is the connector hose between the carbs in place? Also, there is a switch on top of the carb. This can go haywire also. Odd that the problem was not present before they cleaned the carbs.
Can I get a “very helpful” rating on this answer?
