I just purchased a 2000 Triumph TT600 with 33,000km (about 20,000 miles). It was running fine until stored outside and not started for the past 2 years (this is in Montreal and there are winters) . Naturally, the battery is dead, there seem to be some rust in the fuel tank, the brake disc are pitted with rust so is the chain. I would like your advice before attempting to start it.

Gmc idles rough in cold weather

Check the coolant temp. sensor (It controls warm up RPM, open loop ECU mode) And change the fuel filter every 20,000 miles to prevent water in filter from freezing ( fuel starvation).

How often should i oil the drive chain and clean it ? When must it be replaced?

Use commercially available chain lubricant to keep the drive chain from ever running dry. Usually it will be necessary to lube the chain every 200 to 500 miles, depending on how hard your bike is ridden and the conditions it is operated under. Chain lubes available at your local motorcycle shop are far superior to using any other type of lubricant. They are formulated to not fly off and make a mess of your rear wheel, clothing, etc.

If given decent care, you can expect your drive chain to last 10,000 to 20,000 miles. Lubrication and proper adjustment are the keys to success. Ordinary cleaning is not necessary - except for off road bikes.

It is time to replace the chain when you can lift the chain from the sprocket and expose anything more than about 1/2 the length of any tooth on the sprocket.

New spark plugs turn black after going twenty miles

Hi
Make sure the air filter is clean (& not over oiled if sponge type)
Make sure that the pilot screws on #1 & #3 are 2 turns out and #2 is 2.25 turns out
Try turning 1/8 of a turn at a time
Also change to a softer plug - NGK DPR7EA-9 or equivalent as these stay hotter to burn more carbon off

I want to adjust my vales on my motorcycle

Coming from a previous ninja owner/rider. I know adjusting the valves is a project to get the mixture just right. If you say it is running fine, I would leave it alone. It you are really looking for more power, get a jet kit which comes specific for your bike and includes a bunch of different sized jets. But my honest opinion even after reaching 20,000 miles on this bike, if it isn't broken don't change it. The best way to learn is to meet a bike mechanic and become friends with him to learn more. There are usually 3 valves that control different RPM mixtures, a low mixture knob controls RPMs from idle-6k- mid knob from 6-9 and high knob that controls the fuel-to-air mixture at high RPMs from 9-12k+ rpm's. This is just one example and they are all different. Basically you test your RPM range, adjust the knob, and repeat until you find the right feel. Too much or too little gas it will get boggy in that RPM region. Oh and don't turn the high mixture valve thinking it's the low, get a repair manual online to locate the proper knobs and you could do it yourself.

Ac not working right

You will need to add some coolant. Most auto parts stores and hardware stores have recharge kits. Purchase a kit with a gauge to prevent overfilling.
