There is no dipstick on the 01 Catera or any Catera for that matter (97 to 01) also same transmission used on 3 series BMWs.

I have 2 - 2001 Cateras....no....dip...stick.

It's a sealed transmission. There are fluid drain plugs, one at side of the tranny and one at the bottom. Jack the car up from the front on a level surface. Place a hose to a funnel and remove the top filler access plug (the side one). Insert the hose here and fill the funnel until fluid leaks out the side hole (make sure you have a catch pan). Then drop the car and let the excess fluid level out from the fill hole. Raise the car again and wipe away the excess fluid and re-install the filler plug.

The dip stick to check this fluid should be on the left side of the engine as you face the enginenear the firewall. It is possible it could be on the right side but I believe they were still left in 2001. You want to drive the car a few blocks if possible. Once you have done this to warm the transmission up and parked on a level surface, Leave the vehicle running in park. Pull the dip stick out and wipe it clean with a rag. Insert the dip stick and then remove it and look at the stick. You should see Hot and Cold marks. Your fluid level should be between these marks. Be careful adding fluid. Your low mark on the oil dip stick indicates you are a quart low while on the transmission dip stick this is normally only a pint low. As long as you are between the marks on the dip stick you should be good.

Unless you have a standard Transmission you have a dip stick to check the fluid level. You did not mention you had a standard. If you do you will need to located the fill check hole on the side of the transmission and remove it to check the fluid level. I have found most of them located on the right side of the transmission. If you are having problems with shifting in a standard most likely the problem is the clutch however. Standards are pretty tough to break although not impossible.

You will ned to locate the Dipstick for the Automatic Transmission. Once you locate it, while the engine is running you will need to pull it out and check to make sure it is in the area marked Full. If it is not at Full, add the recommended fluid per GM specs.

SOURCE: 2001 cadillac catera ebtcm removal how to

You need to remove the upper rad hose and the battery.
Then, use a torx to remove the 6 screws (hard to get at) which will remove the EBTCM from the brake modulator. You also must disconnect the two electrical connectors (the big one has a slide tab).
There are places you can send the module to and rebuild with warranty. I took a module from a 99' and installed it in my wife's 01'. Now the speedo, odometer, cruise and power steering work perfect and no TCM / ABS light.

Were do i put transmission fluid in the tranny 1997 cadi catera

Your Catera has a sealed for life transmission so therefore on one of these models there is no dipstick and you cannot check the fluid level yourself. The dealer can check the level but that is only necessary if you have a leak. Use a premium grade oil and a quality filter such as AC/Delco, Wix, Purolator, or Bosch. The correct weight oil is listed in your owner's manual and possibly on the oil fill cap or dipstick.

I just got a 1998 cadillac catera and i been trying to figure it out where iwhs the transmision in this car cause i have to put some oil on it. but i can find it. i would like to know exactly where is it.

The transmission in your 1998 Cadillac Catera is a "sealed unit". Under normal use, it does not require service to the transmission filter/fliud.
If you insist on checking/changing the fluid, there is a fill plug at the side of the transmission that will help you determine the fill level of the transmission.
You warm the transmission to operating temp, and remove that plug with the engine running, then on top of the transmission on the driver's side of the vehicle, there is a red plastic cap you remove. Insert a funnel, and slowly add fluid, watching until it begins to dribble out of the check hole under the car. Reinsert the check plug, then cap the transmission again.
Recommended fluid type is Dexron-VI.
