Engine cuts out during heavy rains. This started happening a couple months ago during a heavy rain. As soon as the rain lets up (within mile or two) the engine settles down. Light to moderate rain does not bother it. It has a 5.4L and there are no wires to replace. I tried spraying the engine down with water to look for arcing or get it to act up but it continued to run smooth.
I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM BUT WITH AN ASTRO VAN. THE PROBLEM WAS WATER WAS GETTING INTO THE FUEL PUMP CONNECTOR UNDERNEATH THE VAN, NEXT TO THE FUEL TANK.THIS WAS CAUSING A SHORT, NOT BAD ENOUGH TO BLOW THE FUSE, BUT ENOUGH TO CAUSE THE PUMP TO SHUT DOWN. BEST WAY TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM IS TO FIND THE CONNECTOR AND SPRAY IT WITH WATER WHILE THE VAN IS RUNNING. ALSO DO A WIGGLE TEST, THIS IS DONE BY GRABBING THE HARNESS TO THE PUMP AND MOVING IT AROUND, IF YOU HAVE A LOOSE CONNECTOR OR A BAD WIRE THE VAN SHOULD SHUT OFF.
Testimonial: "I will give it a try and see if it appears to be the problem. I did think about the pump being a problem and sprayed water on and above the tank also but it did not seem to matter either. Someone suggested wires but there are none in this van. thanks."
