Sorry but you have to take it to a dealer or someone with a box that can adjust the idle speed. Your fuel injected bike is just like your car, there isn't much can as an owner can do to them anymore. It's been headed that way since 1999. The days of fixing your own motorcycle are slipping away quickly. That's why I'm keeping my old bikes. I can still work on them.

Good Luck

How to do the timing on a 2005 heritage solftail

Hey Bud,

The timing is Pre-Set & is controlled by the Ignition Computer Module. If yours is fuel injected you will need a possible Mapp adjustment from the dealer. If it is Carb you can possibly achieve what you are trying to accomplish by adjusting the idle or by removing the fuel/air adjustment factory sealed cap and strive to find the results you want.

Good Luck!

How to slow fast idle on carburated 88 vtwin 2000 harley davidson?

Mine does that too. If you lower the idle it will then be too slow when the engine is cool. You might be able to lower the idle just a bit but don\'t go too far. Slow idle is hard on the connecting rods. Look at the carburetor. where the cables come down to the carb there is a small screw that you can turn to make adjustments. I would only turn in COUNTER clockwise 1/2 turn to begin with. If it idles too slow when cool you could always pull the choke out a bit but that can be a nuisance. Try that to see if it helps.

My heritage softail classic 2006 idles to high does anyone know how to adjust it thank you

2006 Softails are Fuel Injected and as long as it is stock, you cannot adjust it. If you have a TTS or Master Tuner or another tuner, you can do it on the interface of the program. If you have a Power commander or another piggyback system you can adjust it on the pack itself or on the computer like the TTS.

First things first, CHECK FOR AN AIR LEAK. Usually if a EFI bike suddenly has a change in idle, 9 times out of 10 its an air leak. Check for that first.

Hi Jacklynn, remove seat and directly behind the battery is a black plastic box. The cover slides up and off revealing the starter relay and the system/fuel pump relay for you injected folks and the various assorted circuit fuses. Good luck

Is the 2000 harley heritage softail classic fuel injected or carburetor ?

You'll have to check with either a dealer or look in a "Black Book of Motorcycle Values" to see if H-D offered that year model with fuel injection. Look for a listing for a FLSTCI. The "I" indicates that the bike was fuel injected. I don't think fuel injection was available on the Softail until 2003 but I may be wrong on that. I am not a dealer nor have I ever worked in a Harley dealership. I'm an independent mechanic that worked on Harley-Davidson for years. I'm retired now.

Good Luck

Bike dies when clutch in. When I engage the clutch to slow down at a stop light

You didn't say whether the bike is equipped with a carburetor or fuel injected. If it's fuel injected, you'll have to take it to a shop since the idle speed is electronically controlled. If it's equipped with a carb, the idle speed stop screw is at the top front of the carb. You may have to take the air cleaner cover off to see it. Turn the screw clockwise to raise the idle speed.

Good luck

Cleaning the Idle Air Control valve on a heritage softail

Hi Jeffsargent, high idle on fuel injected models can be casued by a faulty IAC valve located on the top front of the induction module. It has either failed electronically and needs to be replaced or mechanically getting gummed by contaminated engine blow by. You can try cleaning the unit by removing the air cleaner and backing plate, unplug, unscrew and remove the IAC. Using carb cleaner and " LOW " volume compressed air to clean the metal pintle and shaft that is spring loaded and has an operating length of just under 1 inch. Aventurous souls who did not heed the low air warning have launched pintle and spring into parts unknown. There is no guarantee this will work but worth a try since a new one is $50 Good luck

Stalls on cold start up

Now, I don't know a lot about the electronic fuel injection systems on Harleys but I would guess that there would be an engine temperature sensor on the engine somewhere that would tell the computer that the engine is cold and to enrichen the mixture. The engine should go into high idle speed until the temperature comes up to a certain point as well.
