Question about 1987 Honda XR 250 R

!987 XR 250, front disc brake dragging, does anyone have a solution? We were told to bleed and replace the old fluid. Also what is everyone's recommendation for best purchasing options for replacement parts, plastic, graphics, etc.

Check that the pads are freein the calipar and that the calipar pistons are free, they may be corroded or just need cleaned up and new seals fitted

I have replaced 3 disc brake calipers on my 2001 pt cruiser. after bleeding all 4 brakes 3 times, I started the car and brake pedal goes to floor. is my brake booster shot?


You must start bleeding the brakes at the wheel farthest from the master cylinder (usually the right rear), then the next farthest from the master cylinder, then the next, then the closest. If your master cylinder is at the left front of the car, start with the right rear, then the left rear, then the right front, then the left front. If you don't bleed the brakes in the correct order, you are just shifting the air in the lines from one line to another. Make sure that you close the bleeder before letting the brake pedal up, and the engine should not be running when you bleed the brakes... Make sure that the emergency brake is off. Make sure that the master cylinder does not run out of brake fluid at any time that you are bleeding the brakes.

I am having a problem bleeding the front brake with the standard method on a Yamaha XT 125, 2005 model, can anyone help?

I may need a bit more clarification, but I am assuming the lever is 'spongy'?
The simplist thing to do first is to tie the front brake lever back (ie make it stay on) using a zip tie. Leave this overnight/24 hours and it will allow the trapped air to rise.
Failing this, you can bleed the brake in reverse. Get a large syringe (ebay/chemist) and some pipe that fits over the bleed nipple and the syringe. Remove the master cylinder cover and **** out (use the syringe) the brake fluid. Now fill the syringe with fresh brake fluid and connect to the bleed nipple on the caliper. Open the bleed nipple and slowly push the syringe in, to force the fluid up to the reservoir. Be careful that the fluid doesent come out of the reservoir and splash on your paint work. Lock the bleed nipple up whilst still slowly forcing the fluid in. This normally works.

I have a 99 grand voyager and the drivers side front brake is squeling. I'm not sure how to do brakes, but was told I have disc brakes in the front and drum brakes on the rear. Should I replace the pads...

These brakes are a pretty easy fix. For the job pick up some cheap gloves, you'll need general hand tools, proper Brake Fluid (DOT 3?)some brake cleaner, a large C-clamp, new pads (front) and I'd replace the front rotors too. Place the van on jack stands, remove front tires, using some brake cleaner spray down the calipers, pay special attention to the boot around the piston to clean well (if heavy dirt is left on it, it can make for sticky caliper(s).) Place the C-Clamp ove the calliper to compressit (DO NOT TIGHTEN ON YET!) Loosen the bleeder screw on the back of the caliper and place a small tube on it, now slowly tighten on the C-clamp, this will cause the piston to gently push back in to the caliper, you'll note old fluid coming from the bleed screw. Once fully driven back (don't over tighten!) remove the C-clamp and caliper and clean up with spray. Remove and replace the rotor, install new pads (lubricate as needed) and reinstall the caliper. Repeat to other side; once done bleed brake system and replace with new brake fluid. Be carefull with brake fluid and with brake cleaner, nasty stuff!

In general this is how it goes.

Rear passenger brake is hanging up any ideas

Do you have drum or disc rear brakes? If drum, the wheel cylinder probably needs to be replaced. If the wheel has overheated at any time, you should also replace the hardware (springs, etc) as they can lose their ability to retract the shoes if overheated. If disc brakes on rear, then the caliper is probably to blame. Has the brake fluid ever been changed? Fluid absorbs moisture (never use brake fluid from an open or not tightly sealed container). After rebuilding or replacing the caliper or wheel cyl. bleed all 4 wheels to flush out old fluid, otherwise you may have other wheels w/ brakes dragging/not releasing. Let me know if this doesn't fix it, I'll help further.

tim, I'm not sure if you have rear disc or drum brakes, but this is usually a caliper or brake cylinder (at the wheel) problem. If you have drum brakes, check for any problems like broken springs on the shoes, which would result in parts floating around, and brakes not releasing properly. The same for disc brakes, make sure nothing has become loose (mounting pins for caliper). If you find it is a brake cyl/caliper problem, you will need to rebuild or replace it. Make sure you bleed the brakes for the entire system (you want to flush out the system to prevent further problems), as old brake fluid can become contaminated (brake fluid absorbs water, which corrodes calipers and brake cylinders, leading to failure of those components). Last, make sure it isn't a parking brake that is not releasing. Parking brake cables corrode from exposure to the elements and can bind up, causing the brakes to drag. Use something like WD-40 on the cables to keep them operating correctly.

Disc on front wont bleed after pumping pedal, rears did.

Loose bleeder start front right, with engine running, press the pedal if not fluid on both or poor flow , loose one end of flex hose, and see if You have fluid coming, if not, flex hoses, have to be replaced,

You most likely have a problem w/ the brake fluid being contaminated. Have u ever had the brake fluid changed? Everytime u need brakes, u should bleed the brakes to remove the old fluid. This is something most people DO NOT do, and the old fluid ruins the calipers and brake cylinders. Look in the master cylinder at the fluid. Is it dark, or clear? When the fluid goes bad, it'll not be clear. Fluid also absorbs moisture which is terrible for the brake system. Make sure any bottles of brake fluid are closed tightly after opening. Moisture and contaminants will corrode the inside of the calipers and brake cylinders, and the pistons stick and bind, and will finally totally seize up. Flush the system starting at the bleeder that's the greatest distance away from the master cylinder, then next greatest distance, 3rd greatest, then closest. Bleed each wheel until fluid runs out clear, and then a few more times to be sure u flushed it all out. Check the master cylinder often, so u don't run it so low it draws in air, or u will have more bleeding to do to get the air out too. U might be able to dissassemble the caliper if it's very recently changed, clean it up, check for any crud and coat w/ clean fluid, reassemble. Good Luck, let me know how u make out. countrycurt0

hello i think you should have the system power bleed with a power bleeder theres a good chance the plunger in the proportioning valve is sticking if you have this truck power bleed it will push out the old fluid replacing with new usually if theres any type of contaminates especially oil ,or power stewering put into master by mistake it would swell any rubber piece to the point of a hard pedal and nothing working then you would have to replace everthing like your being told the only thing you could still use would be the lines wich would have to be cleaned with denature alcahol i would have it bleed in sequence firthest tire down to the closest to the master goodluck
