Can't get my Dell Precision M50 Laptop video to fill the screen at 1024 768 resolution. Video will only fill the screen when I set resolution to 1600 1200. Is there something wrong with my video card?

1024x768 is a native wide-screen resolution. more than likely your video card is fine and your notebook monitor does not support that format without shrinking the top and bottom which defeats the purpose of filling the whole screen. plug the kappy into an external widescreen monitor or TV and it will work at 1024x768.

My Dell Precision M50 will not boot. The power

hello, it seems like the only thing you haven't tried is to reset BIOS by taking out the battery from the board. since you have reseated everthing else i am assuming that you are comforatble opening up you laptop.
open it one more time and remove the battery from the board (some of these batteries are now soldered so you may need soldering iron)and leave it out for about atleast 10mins.

see if that helps.

Dell precision m50 will not boot power light just flashes when I push the power on button. I have reseated all of the connection in the laptop. I have tried different batteries and different power...

remove external peripherals. remove battery. use ac adapter alone. check if ac adapter has sufficient power or check if ac adapter led is solid green or blue. if not then ac adapter might not giving laptop enough power to power up.
if ac adapter led stays on but some problem check the ac adapter - laptop pin socket if loose or damage. if not then replace mobo.

try this press and hold Fn then tap on arrow up key check if the display will become bright. if fails try connecting an external monitor to your laptop check if display is fine. if not then uninstall video driver then install a latest one. if fails replace the video card drive or motherboard if video is built-in. if display is fine from the external monitor then reseat the LCD cable if fails then replace the LCD panel with the LCD cable.

Screen resolution is locked at lowest setting!

Hi!

you cant change the resolution? did you check the video card driver in device manager? check if the driver is installed properly. if not, then download the latest video driver at support.dell.com > go to drivers and downloads and select your system. If the video driver is okay, then download the latest BIOS upgrade in the same site. post back here if the issue persists.

Hope this helps!

C840 resolution difficulties...

The type of screen you have is a UXGA screen. the optimal resolution for that is 1600 x 1200. changing the resolution for that will distort the screen causing black borders. If a computer has a 15.0+" SXGA+ screen with an optimized resolution of 1400x1050 and the screen's current resolution is set to 1280x1024 pixels, the display will shrink resulting in a black border surrounding the edges of the screen. Also, all other lower resolutions may be stretched to fit the screen. No border will be visible, but fonts may appear slightly fuzzy.
