What am i missing? no power to starter selenoid.


is the immobilizer off ? any other device that stops power to start or run the engine. modifications alarm upgrades etc these can all stop the power to the starter. even ecu being switched off as ecu has a shunt so it can handle the power drain when engine is being started.

I have a 93 ford f150. I'm switching the starter from one with a selenoid to no selenoid. Having major problems. Can you help


Use a Ford remote starter solenoid, here is a Standard brand part number and where to order it cheap.

Below is a simple wiring diagram of a remote starter solenoid, since you say the new starter will not have a solenoid hook directly to the starter B+ battery post. Mount the remote solenoid as close as possible to the starter, use bulk battery cable or see if they sell it in made up sizes of different lengths. Use the right color cable which is red (B+)

2011 ford focus 1.8 clicking noise when start engine


Could be several problems - check the battery terminals to make sure they are clean. Next check the battery to see if it is fully charged. If both those items checked are OK then the next step is to check the starter.

Now the starter has a selenoid which engages and provides power to the starter motor when you turn the key to the start position.

If you only get a clicking noise then it could be the selenoid valve itself or the starter motor.. Some fords have the selenoid mounted on the firewall others are mounted on the starter motor itself.

So what you need to do next is bypass the selenoid valve and provide power directly to the starter - if the starter turns the engine over then the selenoid valve is the problem. If the starter motor doesn't turn the engine over then it's the starter motor and a replacement is necessary.

Intermitent starter problem. Occasionally once ignition switch engaged grating sound noo start, then ignition swith rotated agin starter engaged - normal start. As explained intermitemt problem.


Beat on the starter with a hammer while someone tries to crank....if if cranks, you need a new starter selenoid. You can also bypass the selenoid by jump starting it with a screw drive to conduct much current between the two bolts on the starter selenoid. Be careful not to touch, unless your full of ****.

1997 chev. 3/4 ton 454. Starter works,then it doesn't. If I keep trying it,it then makes contact and starts. Its very sparatic


starter selenoid. you can replace the selenoid on the starter. it is what conects the power to the starter motor. when the selenoid gets wore out it takes a couple clicks to get good contact.

F250 Van won't start, starter doesn't engage just


The problem you describe is consistant with a faulty starter selenoid. You can check the selenoid by attempting to jump power from the incoming hot selenoid connection to the hot that goes from the selenoid to the starter. Do this with the switch in the "on" postion. If the starter then works, replace the selenoid. Good Luck! I hope you find this to be very helpful!

Intermittent starting problem. Turning key does nothing.


Sounds like you could have a faulty switch, but I would check the starter selenoid first. Sometimes when the selenoid goes bad it will behave in the way you describe. If, with your key in the on position, (not on start), you can jump power from the hot wire, (positive), post on your selenoid to the hot wire that goes from the selenoid to the starter and the starter then engages, but doesn't otherwise, it is a selenoid problem. My pick-up truck wont start it had a bad starter so i replaced the starter, then the battery died....but in the same day...i decided to just use other truck and give it a jump start, but my truck was only...


Based on your description, the starter selenoid is not getting enough juice (current) to pull up solidly. So, causes are:
1. Low battery voltage
2. bad connection of battery+ at the battery or at the selenoid terminal.
3. bad ground connection between the starter selenoid and the truck chassis.

If you want to bypass the selenoid, you can place a jumper cable on the "FAR" side of the selenoid (the side that feeds the starter). Then momentarily touch the other end of the jumper to the battery + terminal.

If the starter cranks, then you have confirmed the selenoid as problematic. Remove it and either replace it or disassemble and clean it.

Won't start


its either a bad or drained battery or the starter selenoid. check your battery voltage using a tester or put it on a charger, if that doesnt solve your problem you should look at your starter selenoid

Starter selenoid


Remove the 2 solenoid retainning srews, then rotate the solenoid to unlock it from the starter housing, you must remove the starter from the car to replace the solenoid.
