I have an ancient yamaha 4hp outboard two stroke.... it has a dammaged aluminum housing on the leg on the left hand side directly below the motor. Cant tell what might have used to be there....Can see the drive shaft,,, was there a vent hole there? exhaust? or can i cover this hole with moldable epoxy to prevent sea water from entering?

Sounds like this is the access hole to allow you to reach the clamp which hold the gear selector rods together, even if you dont have gears this hatch was incorporated in the caseing you could cver this hole up without causing any problems but dont make a permenant fix as you may need to use this access hole at sometime.

How do I take top covers off 4hp Johnson out Board

Hi
There should be a lever on the back of the motor, just below the cowling. Put the lever in the down position and you're good to go.

Hope this helps.

How to find model number on mariner outboard 4hp 2stroke engine

Hello,

Mariner 4hp are identical to Yamaha engines.
You should find a sticker on the port bracket with serial and model number.
If that sticker has disappeard, an aluminum piece is stamped in the side of the cilinder. The numbervstamped in that round pieceis the serial number. I can convert that serial number in a year/model number...

How do i replace a shift lever on a mercury 6 hp 4 stroke outboard 2006

Hello, is it the external shift handle you want to replace?

Then you'll have to remove the engine block from the driveshaft housing.
To do so: Drain the engine oil.
Disconnect the throttle cable from the carburettor.
Disconnect the start-in-gear cable from the recoil starter housing.
Disconnect the fuel lead at the fuel connector
Disconnect the choke puller at the carburettor.
Disconnect the white and black wire from the stop button at the engine-block and engine wires.
Remove 6 bolts holding the engine-block to the driveshaft housing.
Lift the engineblock.
The shift lever is fixed with a M6 bolt in the front-top of the driveshaft housing. You'll need a new gasket, Part Num 803508-9

Good luck!

Yamaha 4HP outboard - cannot pull starter cord - jammed.

Engine or gearcase seized...
Remove the recoil starter ( 3 bolts and the startingear link)
If you can turn the flywheel slightly: Gearcase seized
If you can't turn the flywheel at all: Engine seized.
In both cases: If you can't disassemble and have the job done yourself, forget that motor...

Johnson 235HP Outboard - oil leaking from bottom leg - dark black so picking it is the two stroke oil

most 2 stroke motors will not burn all the oil in the mix and that unburned oil coats the exhaust leg and leaks out the thru hub exhaust and parting line of the lower to the housing. so keep some windex handy and clean it up.

Trying too establish what year this motor is it a 2 stroke 80 hp 6hoL450289 yamaha outboard motor.

Try contacting Yamaha direct or a reputable outboard dealers for the address, they will point you in the right direction, like all motors manufactured the makers keep a record of the serial number, i recently tracked this down for a friends Perkins Diesle engine that is running a generator in the middle of Spain, it turns out that his engine came from a 1912 lorry.

Good luck
