Question about 2008 Yamaha YZF-R1

1 Answer

I have a 2008 r1, a couple of months ago after I had ridden it for about 300 miles, I filled it up with super unleaded fuel (91) and after about 2 miles it acted like it was loading up on fuel. I thought maybe I got some bad fuel, so after I removed the plugs, it seems like # 2 cylinder was not completely burning the fuel and all other plugs looked fine, maybe a little rich since it has an header and GTYR mufflers, no power commander or anything else, just stock. So I installed new plugs, added 104 plus octane additive, and after about 5 minutes of warm up and driving, it cleared up. Then about a couple of weeks ago I rode it at about 7000 rpms for about one minute and when I slowed down it started acting like it was loading up on fuel again. I ran a compression test, and #2 cylinder was at 80psi and all others were at 150. Could it just be lean on that cylinder since it only had 80psi or may there actually be something more serious. Burned valve, piston rings, etc? Any solution or advice would be great.

The cylinder that is 80 PSI has either a scored cylinder wall piston damage or a burned valve, here is the rule for an engine to run smooth all cylinder must be with 5% PSI reading of the highest cylinder pressure tested, as you can see you have a huge problem in #2 cylinder, you are going to have to pull the head off and finds out went caused this, then after that is repaired check for any poss fuel delivery problems. This is a hard mechanical failure, there is no doubt of this.

I have owned a 2003 A6 quattro now for just a couple months. I just filled it up last night and this morning the check engine light came on and stayed on. I made sure the gas cap was securely fastened....

YES-especially with the larger amounts of ethanol being mixed into the newer fuels. Try some seafoam available at walmart and napa, follow directions on can. And use better grades of fuel.

I accidently put super unleaded gas.on my VW beetle 2002

That is not a problem it is actually recommended that you use premium 93-94 Octane fuel, if you put turbo blue (115) in it that would be a problem but 93-94 octane is the VW recommended fuel type.

Does a 1994 Nissan Maxima need Super or Regular Unleaded Fuel?

all cars are designed to use a minimum octane rating of 89,(regular)
but if your car is computer controlled you may find it runs better on the higher grade(fill tank/check miles on odometer,do this a minimum of 5 times to check yourself as driving styles WILL effect mpg)

I use unleaded plus ALL the time for my car is that good or not good. whats the difference between regular unleaded, unleaded plus and super unleaded? which is best to use?

THE BEST THING IS TO USE WHAT YOUR SERVICE MANUAL CALL FOR. REGULAR UNLEADED 87 OCTANE - UNLEADED PLUS 89 OCTANE - SUPER UNLEADED 91 OCTANE. UNLEADED PLUS ITS OKAY. TO USE EVERY NOW AND THEN I WOULD USE 87.YOU CAN RUN 87 - 89 OCTANE.BUT DONT RUN 91 OCTANE ITS FOR THE HIGH PERFORMANCE ENGINE.

When should I get a tune up on my 300 and when should I get the fuel injection system cleaned?

You can 100,000 miles out of a good set of sparkplugs on an EFI engine.I would put some Berryman B12 Chemtool injection cleaner in it once every couple of months depending on your driving habits.Change oil every 3,000 or 3500 miles for a clean engine

2007 range rover check engine light is on! 35,000 miles

Take it to a Shucks auto supply and have them read the code for free before you take it the the dealer and pay large fee. The typical check engine light code comes on when and with that low of miles might be, just not tighten the gas cap enough. Make sure you hear the gas cap click at least 3 times after filling up. It might be that simple, it may take another 100 miles or so but it possibly will clear the code on its own. That's all mine was. When they read the code and they say its fuel related, good chance that it is. FYI, I'm sure your also always using super unleaded and not going to Arco for gas right?? Good Luck.
