How many turns out do you set the idle mixture screw on the carbeurator of a 1988 suzuki rm 250, at low elevation?

Wow.this is a bit of 'how long is a bit of string'.An 88 rm is a quick bike and to get it right is good.Standard everything!!!! 2/12 to 3 turns on a gentle setting. This is the leaner mixture to get it up and running.Once done,go about another half turn out too get it a slight bit richer. This will save the lower end bearings.Hope this helps

Carb problems

Ok, lower the idle and adjust the carb to best idle and turn down the idle and readjust the carb to best idle. back and forth till no change in idle speed. Good Luck

Carb adjusting

get the bike started, hold the engine at a high idle. while holding the idle high, adjust the air fuel mixture screw until it sounds smooth. rev it up a few times and see if the engine is "snappier". let it return to an idle, then adjust the idle screw. it may take a few tries to get it right, just listen to the engine.. if this dont work, you may consider re-jetting the carb. hope this helps...

Bike will not idle

Remove and clean the carb. Reassemble then adjust the pilot screw. This screw is on the bottom outside of the carb centered L & R and forward of the main jet. The screw is nearly recessed in the carb. Turn the screw out 1/2 turn to richen the mixture if the cleaning alone doesn't do the trick. Also, move the clip on the jet needle down one notch for better low speed response. Reset the idle speed as needed.
