1995 jeep grand cherokee. When accelerating, it lurches (as in the rpm's drop as if its about to die). sometimes it dies, but mostly the rpm's jump back up to normal. when it warms up more, it's not as bad. what's the problem?

I have the same vehicle, same problem, 263,000 miles. I've replaced the fuel pump, filter and strainer, fuel pressure still drops too low when accelerating. I suspect the fuel pressure regulator or the fuel line between the regulator and the line connection at the top of the fuel module(in-tank fuel pump & level sender assembly) has a leak and when the fuel demand exceeds the available volume at 50psi, the pressure drops, engine runs very lean, surges, bucks and if you don't let off the gas pedal, the engine dies. I will and you should replace the entire fuel pump & sender module and while you're at it replace the in-line fuel filter and the fuel pump relay. That will solve your problem. I've had my tank out three times so far trying to take the less expensive way out. That hasn't worked very well. I should have replaced the entire fuel module the first time, despite the significant expense because now my fuel gauge is beginning to read erratically.
