Engine stall when put into gear.

There are a few possibility on this one. If you run it out of gas or really low on gas you could of sucked junk up from the bottom of the tank and you will need to replace your fuel filter. Another is that your fuel pump us going bad and you would need to check the pressure. Your throttle position sensor may have gone bad. Your idle control valve is another. Your map sensor or mas sensor could be bad

Why will truck not respond to gas.

I would expect to find a lean fuel mixture. Could be the O2 sensor, throttle position sensor, a vac leak, or a long list of other things.

Have to pump gas pedal and hold key to start, 30-50 seconds. when i get it started it and let off the gas it will sputter and sometimes stall. especially when in also seems to be overheating.

check the fuel pump, when you turn the key to the on position, the pump should start for a couple of seconds, it sounds to me like its not keeping the fuel line pressured any longer, which is why your having starting problems, when you turn the key to on, Listen for the pump to start, you will hear it hum ever so slightly,, after a couple of seconds it should stop, if it doesn't,, its losing the pressure needed, you can have them checked , its not very expensive to get them checked, having to pump the pedal,, doesn't help with this problem,, and the over heating is more than likely associated with it too,, if its not firing correctly, it will tend to over heat at times

96 prizm stalling at stops. sputtering when accelerating and especialy when not accelerating. If I give it alot of gas it doesn't sputter or jump.

Sounds like your Idle Air Control valve is bad. The IAC valve controls the engine idle speed. The valve is located on the side of the throttle body. This valve allows the necessary amount of air, as determined by the (PCM) and controlled by a duty cycle signal, to bypass the throttle plate in order to maintain the proper idle speed. Good luck!

Sputtering real bad if it dont warm up

clean your idle air control valve on your throttle body and clean the throttle body with spray carb cleaner at the same time.
