Question about 2000 Harley Davidson FLSTC Heritage Softail Classic

1 Answer

I put a faring on my Harley heritage softail and want to wire the radio hot wire to the ignition switch. Is there a wiring harness available? I don't want to run the hot wire to battery and forget to turn the radio off and kill the battery. Thanks

Ignition wire keeps getting hot and melting the ignition switch on a 2000 heritage softail

Evidently too much current being drawn. Why is the fuse not blowing? Incorrect size maybe? You will need to be able to use a current meter and have good knowledge about wiring to trace this fault. You will have to measure the current on each wire to confirm which circuit is drawing too much. A non-invasive DC clamp meter is the best way as you will not have to cut wires to insert a amp meter. Check each circuit to find the reason.

2006 Harley Davidson FLSTCI Heritage Softail Classic stops running when hot

Hi, Robert and the usual suspects are:
1. Severely discharged or a damaged battery must have 12.5 volts or more and be able to pass a proper "LOAD" test if necessary, you may have a preliminary reading of 12.5 volts or more but little or zero amperage the battery is faulty and must be replaced, AGM batteries fail in this scenario more so than lead-acid batteries.
2. Faulty alternator/generator and or voltage regulator.
3. Loose or corroded battery terminals and or cables especially the "NEGATIVE" cable, look for loose, corroded, or broken connectors inside the cable harness at "BOTH" ends.
4. Faulty main circuit breaker or ignition switch, check for loose connections and continuity.
5. Faulty system and or ignition relay, check for continuity.
6. Faulty ignition coil, ignition/electronic module.
7. Faulty CKP, CPS, CMP, MAP, TPS, or BAS sensor, corroded, loose or broken wire connector pins/sockets.
8. Throttle cables and or idle speed improperly adjusted hot idle speed should be 950 RPM to 1000 RPM.
9. Faulty neutral, side stand or clutch lever safety switch.
10. Fuel tank empty
11. Fuel tank contaminated with ethanol sludge.
12. Water or dirt in the fuel system, or clogged filter.
13. Restricted, blocked or kinked fuel line.
14. Faulty fuel pump.
15. Faulty pressure regulator.
16. Faulty or clogged fuel injectors.
17. Lean angle switch is faulty or needs adjustment.

My 2005 Heritage Softail was running fine. I shut itr off for a few minutes and when I turned the switch on I had NO electrics and my speedometer was making noise. Any suggestions

Look under the seat,at the bottom of the tank, and check the ground connections. Also check battery connections. If all this is good, remove the fairing, and check the wiring harness that runs across the fairing braces. They are prone to rubbing the wires and shorting them out.

I have a problem ongoing with my 05 harley heritage softail flstci it will loose all power while driving down the road. I need a wiring diagram and if you have any answer for me It would be appreciated . ...

ARE YOU SURE IT'S ELECTRICAL IT SOUNDS MORE TO ME THAT IT COULD BE FUEL FEED (STARVATION).
BAD OR OLD FUEL IN THE CARB BOWLS CAN LEAD TO THIS SORT OF THING. REMOVE BOWL/S AND INPECT/CLEAN .
IF POSSIBLE REMOVE THE ENTIRE CARB ASSEMBLY AND GET IT IN A SONIC CLEANER BATH FOR ABOUT AN HOUR AT A NICE HOT TEMPERATURE. THIS WILL CLEAN EVERYTHING INCLUDING THE GALLERIES AND PASSAGES THAT YOU CANNOT GET AT IN THE NORMAL WAY. THIS HAS WORKED FOR ME ON OLD TRIUMPHS AND MARINE ENGINES SUCH AS MERCURY HONDA AND JOHNSON.

Have a 99 heritage softail. Why does my right signal light start blinking ,on its own.

Hi Bill_mtz, probally because it wants too. No seriously you have either a faulty TS button/switch or a worn wire between the switch and the TS module or a corrupted connection at the wiring harness connector to the TS module or the module itself could be going south. Is there a easy place to hook up battery tender on 2005 hd heritage softail other than removing the seat.

When I had my Softail, I used the battery wiring harness that came with the battery charger. It had a plug on it that could be tucked out the way, but readily available when needed.
I use the same setup on my 99 FLHT.
It looks like this....
