By 1990 the air valve was to let air build up out of forks in most bikes. As for rough riding , change the oil first, 5wt or 2.5wt for softer damping

My soft tail rides really stiff on rough roads. What can I do to soften the ride. Seems like the front forks are stiff. Just had shocks serviced.

As far as the rear suspension, a softtail won't ride a smooth as one with a swingarm, as the softtail has less travel.

On the front end, Harley has three different "thicknesses" of fork oil, light, medium, and heavy, which gives different suspension dampening.

If the front forks are too stiff, you could try a lighter fork oil.

If feels like a pogo stick sometimes and also wants the front end to wash out too and on the front forks i have a oil leak

Your front fork seal are bad and need to be replaced.
When you loose fork oil, your loosing suspension dampening and only riding on the springs.(POGO)

Replace both front fork seals and dust caps, and put same amount of fork fluid in both forks.

I bought my seals and caps for $30 on ebay, and then took my forks off my bike and took them to a shop and they charged me $75 to do the job.

You can take them the whole bike and they will charge $100 - $150 including parts to do the job.

Frough riding. Seems that the front end has no give at all. I feel all the bumps in the road thru the handlebars. Adjustment?

Either you have too much air pressure in your front forks or you ,or someone, has put too much oil in the front forks and you are destroying your forks with every bump. Let out the air pressure to soften the ride. If some one has put too much oil in the forks , disassemble them, evaluate the damage , repair , refill with correct amount of oil , and ride.

How do you replace fork oil and what do you do with air valves on 1981 kawasaki kz650 csr front forks? Do you pour in new fork oil and then insert air through the air nozzle on each individual front fork?...

Your owners manual will help if you have one. There used to be drain plugs under each fork. The air valves help suspension smoothen the rides more.

Honda front strut air pressure

fork psi should'nt exceed 9psi. fork air valves are best used for removing air. spring preload should be adjusted to abtain the correct sag (1'' on most street bikes)

VFR400R NC24 front forks are soft. Should they be this soft?

i prepared it to be soft for comfortable riding but if you think that it is to soft try to add some air on it, but check the oil seal of the fork if it has no leak.
