Hi Mneahr, always check your instrument fuse before performing the next procedure, try cleaning your speed sensor located on top of the transmissions right side between the top cover and the chrome starter end cap on Twin Cams and on top of the engine case between the rear cylinder and the starter motor for Sportsters. Remove the the bolt that secures the sensor and pull it out of the transmission. Inspect sensor for obvious damage and repace if necessary. If sensor has no damage then wipe clean any obvious contamination like micro fiberous material with a clean rag and reinstall, torque bolt to 8 ft lbs. Next check the connector to the speedometer for correded, broken or loose pins/sockets. Good luck and have nice day.

What should i look for when my speedometer works and my tack doesnt on a 99 dyna lower rider?

Speedometer and tachometer are completely separate on that bike. The tachometer is driven by a sensor in the crankcase, and the speedometer is driven by the rotation of the front wheel.

The tachometer electric wire may have become damaged (common problem), and a replacement wire may be bought from Harley. Also, verify that the gauge itself is operating properly by attaching a 9v battery across its wires very briefly, to see if it deflects. If the wire is good and the gauge is good, the rotation sensor in the crankcase must be replaced.

2004 mitsubishi endeavor speedometer, tachometer and temp gauge are all not working. how could I fix it?

Hi, I would think it either has a blown fuse or more likely would need a replacement instrument panel installed. Could be $100 to $300 used for the part depending on where you get it. Installing it would probably be 1 or 2 hours labor if you do not know how to.

Both speedometer & tachometer not working, both reading wrong.

There was a recent class action law suit settled with GM for this exact problem. You can google gm speedometer lawsuit and get lots of information. Unforutunately for most people I think the warranty was limited to 7 years and 70,000 miles. Which isn't a lot of miles for most people.

If you car isn't covered by the warranty there is a way to "reset" the speedometer.

You can turn the ignition slowly like you are going to start the engine. There is a very small "dead" space where you will see your guage lights go off.

What you want to do is cycle the ignition switch from off to that dead space. Each time you do it your stuck speedometer will move towards zero about 10 mph. So if its stuck on 40 you will have to cycle it at least 4 times.

At first you will probably actually hit the ignition and the engine will try to start.....just release it and try it again.

I know this because I have a 04 avalanche with 80,0000 miles and it has this problem about twice a month.

"The Fix" works...I would have not believed it untill I did it.... Start the car in reverse and about 5 times later it reset the speedometer back to zero.....wow!
