How do you change oil filter

The oil filter is a can shaped object that is screwed into the side of the engine.
You need an oil filter removal tool that wraps a strap around the oil filter so you can unscrew the oil filter in an anti-clockwise direction. When the oil filter is loosened you will get some oil spillage.
When you replace the oil filter, apply a little fresh oil on the rubber o-ring seal before you screw the oil filter back onto the engine. Do not over tighten the oil filter as you can damage the o-ring seal and cause the oil to leak out of the engine when the engine is running.
After installing the new oil filter I suggest you start the engine and let it run until the engine warms up, then check the oil filter to see if there is any oil leaks from the oil filter (between the engine and the oil filter). If it leaks and you have not tighened the oil filter enough then screw the filter a little tighter/

My oil filter housing leaks really bad. What can i do?

First thing is to make sure the oil filter gasket is on and that only one is on it and not two. You want to make sure the oil filter is sealed properly to the oil filter housing first because this too can cause oil to leak. This can be a common mistake. Remove the oil filter and double check the oil filter has only one gasket on it and make sure it is not spit. Put the oil filter back on, with one good gasket, and clean the area up and top the oil off to proper fill and then start the vehicle and look at the filter as the engine is running. If you see no leaks after a few seconds then this may have been your issue. If you still see oil leaking the you will need to remove the oil filter and remove the oil filter housing. One of the "O" rings inside might have cracked or shifted. I recommend not driving or starting the engine until this issue is repaired.

How is the oil filter mount, connected to an 3.4Lt engine block, of a 1999 Chevy Venture Van? Are there O-rings, or gaskets?

Hi Friend:

Your Oil Filter is a Typical Screw on Filter with the Rubber Gasket Already On the New Oil Filter.

So just use a Oil Filter Wrenh yours is a Fairly Small Filter. So Get the Wrench and Slide it Over and Around the Oil Filter And Turn it Counter Clock-Wise. Be Sure to Have something on the Groubnd Under the Vehicle to Catch the Oil thats in the Crankcase & Filter.

Go to your Local parts store and buy a new filter and you can then see what size Oil Filter Remover wrench. you'll need.

Then just Screw new Filter back on where Old Filter came off. Becarefull not to get it on Crooked it will Strip out the Threads on the Filter and The Oil Pump which is where it comes off from.

This will get you going.

Thanks for Using FixYa From: d_hubbs

Where do I get a wrench to drain the oil from the oil filter in a 2007 jetta?

hi, how do you mean drain the oil from the oil filter you need to replace the oil filter not just drain it.

If you cant get the oil filter off then what you can do is hammer a screwdriver through the middle of the oil filter so that it comes out of the other side this will then give you more leverage as you can use the screw driver to undo the oil filter.

Once you have the filter off make sure you rub some clean engine oil around the rubber seal on the new filter before fitting it to ensure that you have a proper seal and no leaks.

Let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok

Oil leak?

Sounds like the garage either installed a filter with a faulty gasket or the oil filter is not tightened, or there is trash under the oil filter gasket.

I'd remove the oil filter, clean gasket seat on block, clean oil filter gasket, check gasket for nicks/defects, reinstall oil filter if gasket is good, hand tighten (but tight as you can get it) and try again.
