If you are talking about when you park it for long periods of time and it runs your battery down, may I suggest getting a battery tender to keep it charged rather than removing your anti thief device.

That's a strange one. The only things I can think of suggesting are:

  • Clogged gas cap vent. The next time is starts running poorly, remove the gas cap briefly and see if things improve. If so, then the cap is not venting as it should.
  • Moisture trapped in float bowl. Drain the contents on the carburetor float bowl into a clean container and check for dirt, rust, water, or anything else that doesn't belong there.
  • Dirty fuel filter. If there is one, replace it.
  • Air leak between carb and engine. Check tightness of clamps and manifolds for cracking. WD-40 sprayed around those areas with the engine idling will help detect any leaks.
That's all I can think of. Please let me know if any of my suggestions fixed it.

SOURCE: 2006 H-D Sportster 1200 roadster. The starter

Either the starter button, a starter relay or the starter solenoid must be sticking and causing the starter to continue running. It is also possible that the starter is not releasing from the starter gear and is being driven by that.

Alarm system isnt allowing me to turn over, after about 5 min if finally lets it start. Meanwhile the lights are going off on the alarm. Could that be a low battery?

it sounds more like a problem with the arming and disarming of the alarm, might pay to take it to a dealer and sort this out because if there is enough battery to turn the motor over and run the bike then there is enough power for the alarm some alarms have time adjustments on them for arming and disarming see if this one has it cheers hope this helps

2009 harley davidson xl 1200c sportster wont start

Hi Anonymous, and the usual suspects are:
1.Ignition/Light Key Switch not in IGNITION position.
2.Engine Stop switch in the OFF position.
3.Discharged battery, loose or corroded connections check negative cable at "BOTH" ends. (solenoid chatters).
4. Bank Angle Sensor tripped and Ignition/Light Key Switch not cycled to Off and then back to on.
5. Starter control circuit, relay or solenoid faulty.
6. Electric starter shaft pinion gear not engaging or over-running clutch slipping.
7. Security alarm not disarming

Hi Fishguy656, if you have a security alarm on your bike it's tied into your turn signals and any wiring problem you had with the rear tire must be addressed and correctly repaired. Next I would try a reset on your alarm system, for more information on your question please visit the websites below and good luck:

The battery keeps running flatv after about 2 days. could the alarm module be causing this? i have checked everything else.

Doubt the alarm system has anything to do with dead battery..I would check condition of the battery and have load test done on same.If the battery checks out ok then go to charging system.Using a simple volt guage check battery with engine not running..Now crank up that puppy and test the volts at battery. should be higher than with engine not running. Not running should be 12 to 12.5 ;running as high as14.5 .I think thebattery is suspect ..

Flat battery 2008 sportster 1200noon 8,000k

are you sure that the battery is flat and the alarm has not gone into spleep mode this will give the impression that the batt is flat when you try to disarm the bike , turn ignition on and off to wake up alarm, press fob button twice then turn ignition on. if you do have a flat battery use a battery charger or jump start with a car . if alarm was armed before battery went flat then it will go off as soon as power is restored.

Cannot start my 2004 Sportster 1200 Custom due to security system

Check the battery, try jump starting it with another battery. If the battery voltage drops too low, i believe the alarm default is to disble the bike. (Greasy little criminals will cut battery cables to disarm the alarm) so although you may have enough power to operate the lights and alarm, it may be droppoing too low to start.
