Question about 2007 kawasaki KLX 250

1 Answer

New 2010 KLX250S. HARD to start cold or hot. Follow the handbook, same problem. Flat spots when riding. Poor performance, not even as good as a ten year old Honda XR250! My son can't start it either, it is dangerous to ride & let's you down. Poor engine torque. Dealer said it is normal as the bike is heavily restricted for emissions & that is they way they are! Not fit for purpose! A truly sadenning experience. Anyone else with the same? please advise!! Robert

1986 Mercury grand Marquis cutting out when slowing down nearly impossible to start. Oil changed, new air filter, new plugs and wires, new fuel filter...?

I had an experience with a 1984 T-Bird with a 302. The 1986 may have the same system. With that car there was a temperature sensor that affected the idle speed once the car was close to warming up.
With even later models there is a "cold start sequence" which is an electronic way of replacing the ancient choke. The "cold" feature set the fuel mix and the RPM and made starts easier. Now you did not say if the starting problem was when hot or cold or both.

The poor performance when slowing down can be related to the idle rpm being set too low once the thermal switch cuts out. What happens is someone tunes the engine for a rpm that may be correct for the car, but the thermal switch has not dropped the rpm yet. Then when the car really heats up, the idle drops even lower and when you take off your foot from the throttle, the throttle closes too much and the engine cuts out when you are slowing.

Put in a new thermostat. The idle settings can not be set until the thermal switches activate to a run position. Also you may have some vacuum lines crossed which are making the cold and hot cycles reverse. There should be a label with vacuum line routing shown stuck on a part that holds the radiator.

Sym mio 50 is starting then cutting out for about ten minutes then when warm it runs fine I have replaced the carb this has not made any difference please help

Definetly an air leak, I believe what is happening is where the inlet manifold joins the cylinder it has a poor joint which when cold is contracted and when engine heats up the joint expands with the heat, sealing the leak, ie causing the fuel/air mixture to become rich enough for scoot to run.

Burns much gas

Hi Anonymous, riding double, extra weight (saddle bags) can contribute, performance modifications almost always cuts down MPG a little but the number one usual suspect is over sized main jet. If it electricley related (retarded timing) performance would be poor and engine would run hot. You can try and retieve any trouble codes that might have been generated relating to poor MPG. If you need assistance in performing this procedure the web site below wil help walk you through it.
Good luck

2010 yz450f starts hard when hot

Hi, Bob and the usual suspects are:
1. Spark plugs in bad condition or have an improper gap or are partially fouled.
2. Spark plug cables in bad condition.
3. Battery damaged or nearly discharged, should have 12.5 volts.
4. Check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
5. Throttle controls not adjusted correctly.
6. Water or dirt in the fuel system.
7. Water or dirt in the carburetor.
8. Faulty fuel pump.
9. Intake air leak.
10. Fuel tank vent hose and vapor valve plugged, or fuel line closed off, restricting fuel flow.
11. Enricher valve inoperative.
12. Engine lubricant to heavy (winter operation).
13. Ignition is not functioning properly (possible sensor failure).
14. Faulty ignition coil.
15. Valves sticking.

Hope you have kept notes on all the carb setting changes.
Did the problem start when the exhaust was modified? If not it may not be a carb problem.

Engine hot

Yes, the R80 has an air cooled engine and may also have a oil cooler to help out with cooling.

First, how do you know the engine is hot beyond what is considered normal? Do you have an oil temp guage? Air leaks around the head and carb connection can make the engine run lean which will contribute to excess heat and poor performance. Check for cracked/hard rubber hose between the carb and headand replace with new if required.

Ride the bike and enjoy it.... just make it a point to shut the engine off if you are stuck in stopped traffic for a period of time longer than 10-15 minutes.

Using a good quality oil in these bikes is also a good idea.

Good Luck!

Have a bmw 316 it over heats when stopped after bout ten mins with the engine still runnin,, also the fans r blowin cold

feel your radiator when the engine is hot, should be hot at the top and cooler as you go down with no cold spots, if you have a cold spot then it is clogged, and it will require cleaning or replacing. Check your thermostatic fan clutch when the engine is hot should be hard to turn, if it free wheels while engine temp is more then normal, it probably needs to be replaced. Hope this helps, let me know
