Question about 1973 Honda CB 200

Open Question

Honda CB200 electrical issues

I have a weird problem with my 1973 CB200. All the electrics run fine when the kill switch is set to 'OFF', yet when I turn the kill switch to 'RUN' all the electrics stop (headlight, indicators, neutral light etc). If I turn the kill switch back to 'OFF', everything works fine again (this shows that it is not blowing the main fuse and the battery is okay I guess?).
For some background, everything was working fine up until last week when my brakelight started playing up so I started checking all the connections to make sure something wasn't loose. Then my main fuse started blowing. I found a loose connection and this stopped the fuse blowing. Now I just have the issue of the electrics shutting down when the kill switch is set to 'RUN'.
You can find the wiring diagram here (think the CB200T is the same) http://oldmanhonda.com/MC/WiringDiagrams/MCwiring.php#class

SOURCE: 1998 Honda Goldwing will not start nothing.

Sort of sounds like a Twilight Zone kind of problem doesn't it. I would have the battery checked for an internal dead short. This is something that happens on odd occasions and can happen even to a new battery. Yea, the little lights will work ( they do not draw much juice ), but the starter motor draws a lot of juice and a shorted battery just ain't got it. Also check the wiring harness connections. One loose connection can cause bunches of trouble.

SOURCE: 2005 Honda Goldwing- Electrical issue. Bright

sounds like a wire has been added the wrong way or wires have damage, switch could be the culprit. Does the kill switch work? I would be checking all wires and the conectors for heat damage (melting). And fuses for all circuts. if low beam is used does key work to stop engine?

Kill switch for 50 hp mercury outboard motor

Hey Dan,
this depends on what type of kill switch you have...
one type kills (breaks the hot wire) the connection and one type makes the connection to ground..(grounds it out).. try to bypass the kill switch to see if it will run..

My 73 RD 250 cranks 1st kick and runs great but when key is turned to position 2 it dies just as if I had hit the kill switch.

Hi Barry:
Sounds like there is a dead short happening in the # 2 position. Trace the wire to determine what is supposed to be happening at #2..... There will probably be a grounded connector. Gotta love those old bikes.

2009 Honda Shadow Aero ran fine yesterday, stopped for about 3 hours would not start last night. Turned over would not start, help?

sounds like a CDI issue!
could also be an ignition switch or run/stop switch issue.
is the bike lacking any power when running?
Maybe stator pick-up coil as well.
Have electrical components checked at the dealer.

Headlight switch turns my Bronco off?!

Sounds like a weak connection somewhere close to the battery.
The alternator should be able to keep up with the extra electrical load not to mention the storage capacity of the battery. So if the headlights are killing power to the key switch, something is weak between the battery and the key.
Could be a corroded cable, connection at the solenoid, or in the fuse box.

i would change the headlight because if one side of the bulb lights up that means that the lower beam is bad or just check your fuse you may have two fuses to that connection

I am working on my Husqvarna 124 L line trimmer. It suddenly stopped running. I know a few things about fixing engines and because of the way that immediately stopped, I figured that it was an electrical...

Kinda backwards than normal operation I see string trimmers. It could a weird setup. Check the kill operation with an ohm meter. If it is a closed circuit in run and open in kill position you may electrical connection problem in the wiring.

But normally you ground the magneto to kill the spark. By leaving the wires off at coil you should spark and not when you ground it.

Post an comment back when you out what is going here as I haven't seen this before. This might explain some reports I seen about customers receiving electrical from some Husqvarna trimmers.
