Gas leaking out overflow tube as soon as petcock turned on fuel running out of overflow tube, running or not

If you are saying the fuel is leaking out of the carb overflow tube it would likley be that the float and/or needle and seat are stuck or defective

Won't Idle. Fuel from overflow.

Hi, Anonymous and the usual suspects are:

I have a 1985 Yamaha maxim that hasn't been ran

Spray starter into the carb intake with no choke, if she runs for a few seconds then you know its fuel starvation
clean jets & airways & blow through with compressed air

I put gas in my bike. Didn't even start it and it was leaking gas out the overflow tube. Is this a problem?

The float may be stuck in the open can try tapping on the bottom of the carb to see if it stops...otherwise you may need to remove the carb bowl to see what is sticking

Maxim x turns over, but fuel coming from over flow tube onto floor? After turning over two times, charged battery, I cant even get it to turn over. Any Ideas?? (it just clicks now).

clean ya carb. if it's overflowing make sure you don't have your fuel valve on prime. clean the **** outta your carbs ( pull the jets and run a pice of small wire through each one then blow em out), then do the same for the float needle pieces. pull the float pull the needle and check it's seal then clean teh brass fitting it goes into if still having prob replace float needle. good luck man. ne more questions email me. customsouth676@

Maxim tiller won't run

Try better quality gas. I had the same problem. Ethanol too high in lower grade gas. Buy better grade or ethanol free. Mine works fine with better gas.

(gas leek)it looks like the gas is coming from the shifter..... yamaha xj 650 maxim

you will never have gas coming from the shifter, gas only goes from the tank to the carbs then as a vapor into the cylinder for combustion. if it is gas on your shifter then it is dripping from somewhere or maybe your carb overflow tube which will exit under the bike at rear of engine. if this is the case then you have a sticky float in the carbs. turn off fuel tap and it should stop. but if you are in the USA get some Berrymans B12 fuel additive and double the dosage and run bike til hot then leave to stand overnight. this should break down any gum/varnish which is making the floats stick. if it don't then run it again and do the same. if all else fails you will have to remove carbs and take off the float chamber bowls and clean them with carb cleaner
