Question about 2006 Yamaha Royal Star Tour Deluxe

1 Answer

I have a 2006 Royal Star which I just purchased. It has 6,000 miles and runs fine. However, there is a chirping / whistling sound coming from the engine area. I was told that it was the " clutch pack ". Is there something that can be done to get this noise.

There is a clutch basket - can't remember the series number, but I think it may be "E" - that will typically reduce the chirping you're hearing. Many Yamaha dealers have replaced these under warranty.

The chirp is a product of the square-cut gears used in the transmission. They are cut that way to provide more solid contact/meshing, but they can sometimes be noisy. Swapping to synthetic lubricants such as AMSOIL will quiet things down a bit.

I have an '06 RSTD, pearl white, that I've put 42K on. It's a fantastic bike. Just don't ride it like a V-twin. The V-4 wants to rev! So never be afraid to wind 'er up. Think of it as sort of the world's largest sport bike. Oh, you'll probably want to ditch the extremely uncomfortable stock seat for a Mustang or Ultimate seat. The stock seats are the worst on the planet!

Hi, Anonymous get a 2nd opinion I would love to help you with your engine or chassis noise but I just loaned my brand new pair of listening ears to your local dealer's chief technician so he could take your bike for a test ride and give you his professional opinion and estimate about your noise and repair cost. Went to start my 2006 Yamaha ROyal Star Tour Deluxe, had no power to ignition or electrical system

sounds like possible bad battery or batttery connections. If battery is more than 4-5 years old thatis a good place to start as it should be replaced anyway.

2007 Royal Star Tour Delux with 15,000 miles. Rear brakes scored

Not an unusual problem, no recalls. Replace pads (and rotor, if necessary), but after brakes are bled, loosen the bolt between the rear caliper arm and the swing arm, have someone apply and hold rear brake, tighten bolt. The arm, which holds the caliper in line with the rotor, occasionally loosens and allows misalignment. Checking pad thickness on both sides of the disk regularly will reveal caliper problems if wear is not evenly distributed.

Top compressor area is making a 'sing song' whistle noise, which appears to happen when it is not running. This is a 1990 model KSSS48DW BDWW00, KITCHEN AID SIDE BY SIDE. We got it used. We had a service...

If it's a whistle, or chirp like sound, then find what is rubbing together to cause the noise. If it is a low pumping sound that seems to be coming from internal to the compressor, then that is the way they sound.

I might caution you, if the tech's that are putting R-12 in the system are doing so through clamp on type service ports, they are violating the EPA mandate for the type of equipment used to service A/C and refrigeration equipment. Besides the fact that it will continue to leak because the type of fittings used will not hold R-12.
