I'll bet you've got that vacuum operated petcock on your bike too. Not saying this is the problem but I've seen more problems with them than I care to mention. They're only on carburetur equipped bikes. You didn't say which you had but if you've got one, I'd check it out.

You can drain the tank and remove the petcock. Check the condition of the screen filter that is in the tank. On the backside of the petcock, the should be a small vacuum hose connected to the petcock. Take this hose and the fuel hose loose. On the backside of the petcock is square plate held on by four screws. Remove the screws and lift the plate. There is a diaphragm, a small spring, and a needle in there. Take the needle out and use compressed air to blow everything out, Rotate the fuel selector lever and make sure both the on and reserve position is clear in the petcock. Now, hold the diaphragm up to the light and stretch is slightly. Look for holes. If you find a hole, replace the diaghragm. If not, reassemble the petcock.

The vaccum hose that supplies vacuum to the petcock is very small. It comes off a large hose that supplies vacuum to the VOES switch under the top tube of the frame. The vacuum is supplied by a nipple on the backside of the carburetor. Check this hose for cracks or being unplugged.

What I suggest is that you replace the petcock with a high quality manually operated petcock. I like the Pingle petcocks. They're expensive but well worth the money. You'll have to get into the habit of turning your fuel off when you stop the bike like the "old school bikers" do. Just a precaution in the event a piece of trash gets in the needle and seat of your carb.

Now, there are other things that could be causing this. A bad gas cap for one. If the vent in your gas cap is bad, a vacuum will build up in the tank and starve the carb for fuel. you can test it in either of two ways. Loosen the cap (don't take it all the way off) and ride the bike. If the problem goes away, buy a new gas cap. Or, the shop method of testing them when you don't have time to ride the bike. Take the cap off, wipe off as much gasoline as you can, stick the threaded part in your mouth and **** and blow on it. If you can **** air and blow air through the cap, it's fine. Now, go find the Scope mouthwash or everyone will call you "Gasoline Breath" for the rest of the day.

If your bike is fuel injected, you might want to check the electric fuel pump. Other than that, I can't help you with the fuel injection. I know nothing about it as Harley is very secretive about that.

Good Luck

My Kawasaki twin engine model FD 590 on my lawn tractor sputters, looses power and shuts down after about 15 min of running. Will star after it cool down. Cause please??

Immediately check for spark after it dies. A failing ignition module will quit after it gets hot (about 10 minutes) then work again after it cools. Other causes could be a blocked tank vent; try to run till it starts to act up and loosen the fuel cap. See if it starts to run right again or if it does die it starts right back up. A sticking shut-off solenoid, sticking float needle or partially clogged fuel filter can also cause these symptoms. They let some fuel in but not enough and eventually the motor starves for fuel. then slowly the fuel fills back into the bowl and it will run again for awhile till it runs out of gas again.

It could be moisture yes, could be electrical if the wires and plugs are older they will crack and in humid or rainy weather they would be worse-or when they are cold.

2000 fxdwg stalls out at high speed?

Sounds like a fuel issue as in not enough your petcock could be clogged or jets clogged. How fast we talking 90 ,100.? does it start to sputter first like its running out of gas could be the hose is collapsing Try drain the tank remove petcock clean screen see if there isn't rust in the tank replace the fuel line make sure vacuum line is in good shape. Not much to it.
Good luck . Tom.

Mower acts like it has run out of gasoline when gas level is still half full. Fill it up and it runs great.

Sounds like bleed hole blocked in tank when it stops you release pressure then try starting it again without putting fuel in see if it runs,,,,if it does it will run for a while then pressurise tank and stall you will need to replace cap

Bike started to sputter and lose power fuel

This sounds like water in the gas. Condensation in the gas tank makes it's way into the float bowl and after enough accumulates the bike dies because water just doesn't burn like gas. Drain the carbs and then let them fill up again. The good thing is that the cost to eliminate this as a problem is zero.

Craftsman 7.0 HP Briggs & Stratton mower stalling

Check the muffler, if the muffler is clogged it could cause overheating of the engine, and could keep the engine from getting the necessary fuel-gas mixture.

My Truck is stalling out at stop and go situations.

check th fuel filter - does this happen when below 1/4 tank of gas? there is a filter in there too. a clogged filter will be worse at acceleration - if it is at 1/4 tank or less when this occurs - try filling up and see if that helps - when you drop below 1/4 tank you will **** up trash from the bottom of the tank! hope this helps

Stalling (The best I could think of to describe my issue)

Hello tirckydad_4: If this problem begun, immediately after filling your gas tank, my first guess based on your description would be that you bought some bad gas. Try adding some fuel cleaner to your tank. This should help, but the only way to get rid of the bad gas is to use it, or siphon it out and put some gas in from a different gas station. As a tip, try to avoid filling up when you see a fuel tanker re-filling the tanks at the gas stations. Theory goes, then when the fuel tanker is re-filling, the gas station fuel tanks, it is sirring up old sediment that usually has settled at the bottom of the tank. Sediment that has been pumped into cars can cause cars to run sluggish.
