Question about 1998 Triumph Triumph Thunderbird

1 Answer

Triumph T'bird sparking only on No.3 cylinder

My 98 Triumph Thunderbird is only giving a spark on No. 3 cylinder. Coils on No.1 and No.2 are in tolerance on ohmmeter, and the low tension wiring back to the ignitor contol box seems sound.
Bike has electronic ignition - which i don't understand. Any checks or suggestions before I replace the ignitor unit? Thanks

Try changing No.1 or 2 coil to No3. wiring to make sure coil is sparking if not you may have two faulty coils

Bike runs fine up to 5000rpm - then hits a brick wall - carbs have been balanced - fuel flow checked - coils ok???

Here might be a fiew things to check :
1) spark plugs try new ones
2) spark plug boots if they are resistor ones one could be bad
3) fuel flow - try running on reserve the tap could be dirty or just not letting enough though had this happen on my cr250 honda

95 model thunderbird, runs great until idle, cuts out no spark bike starts again when it feels like it. when idling engine randomly miss fires as if you were flicking the kill switch on and off quickly....

The pick-up coils fail sometimes but usually lead to a complete failure
Before just replacing parts u can eliminate some suspects ie kill switch, clutch switch & ignition switch by bridging
Also check that there isnt a spark jumping from an HT lead or plug cap

I just bought a used 1996 Triumph Thunderbird. I ran it a while and when I shut it off the hot light came on and it will not start. The green neutral light will not come back on until it cools off and it...

initially try to turn the engine slowly by hand (for valve adjustment, etc..) place the transmission in neutral and remove the spark-plugs (so you don't fight the compression of the cylinders). A 1 1/8" socket or wrench can be used on the crank-bolt or you can just pull the accessory belt. Avoid pulling on the plastic fan blades, they break.
Also carefully check to see if it has spark and also check your fuses under the hood
thanks and plse do rate this solution.keep updated.
