First prove its not the switch that is the problem, unplug it from the loom & short the cables with a paper clip (OW & YG) that would be my first step.

Gee, I rode mine for about 115,000 Km and never had that, except for when I had the choke on and the fast idle was keeping the revs up. If that's not it, then maybe a sticking throttle cable. Otherwise, it sounds like a loss of compression, which would point to valves staying open a bit or rings worn out. At your mileage, I would not expect valve or ring problems based on my experience.
There should be a glass view hole/ window on the left side, opposite the mufflers.

I always ride slightly faster than surrounding traffic so I am aware of My surroundings, that time you would take to see how fast youre going is how bikers die often, I learned to check my six or behind me, something I didnt do much until by chance happened to have used a car that night going home from work at midnight and got slammed by a drunk i saw coming but he drove into me anyways!
You need to support the entire weight completely off the front end. If you have frame sliders these are useful points under which to place jack stands (on wooden blocks if necssary.) Then you must remove the wheel and forks before removing the triples. This is not a trivial procedure - a special tool is required to properly set the bearings when re-assembling. I would recommend a service manual to follow the process specifically.
