Question about 2000 kawasaki VN 800 Vulcan Classic

1 Answer

Electric Starter Sticking I have a 2000 Kawasaki Ultra 150. I just changed that battery and was going to make sure that it started before tomorrow. When I first pushed the start button, it didn't do anything. The second time I pushed the button it cranked but never stopped cranking. As long as the key is on it just keeps cranking and cranking and cranking and will not stop cranking until I turn the jet ski off.

Sounds like a stuck starter solenoid,if you can get to the solenoid tap it with the handle of a screw driver, might take a sharp rap if it quits cranking then you will need to replace it...

Need to replace starter bendix on 1994 750 kawasaki xir

It is fairly easy to change your starter bendix. Just start by disconnecting the battery cables. Then you will remove the bolts on the flywheel cover, which also hold the starter in place, and then just change the old part out with the new one.

The oil light is on because the engine isn't running to build any oil pressure. Sounds like the new battery may need to be charged fully. After the battery is fully charged, and the 'clicking' noise is back (or not) check the battery connections for corrosion--especially at the positive terminal. If ok, you should get one solid click when trying to start. If ok, but still not starting, jump the two heavy terminals of the solenoid (click source) with a heavy wire which should bump the starter motor. If nothing, then the starter motor needs service--usually the brushes inside fail to make contact with the armature due to brush wear, or weak springs. Most dealers will likely only sell you a new starter--no internal parts. Hope this helps!

.have a 2001 300 kawasaki

Ok, disconnect your starter and try again. Starter pulls the most Amps, out of your battery during start, and that's why the cables going to it, are practically driven from the battery directly to it with the help of a small relay. You could have a problem with your starter, if the fuse you burn is the big 30A. If smaller Amp fuse is getting "killed", all you got to do is check your fuse box guide and see which sub circuit is the one "in pain".

Starting problem,When I go to start the bike it blow's the fuse. I have tested the starter and when I put 12 volts to the coil it starts up fine,The switch tested Is there a relay some place.

I'm assuming that you put the 12 volts directly to the connector on the starter solenoid.

To answer your question, there is a starter relay. It's a one inch plastic cube type device usually located under the seat but I can't say for sure. Seems since 2000, Harley moves stuff around every year now and I can't keep up with them.

You starter has no fuse in the line. The cables that run your starter motor come directly from the battery. Only the starter CONTROL circuitry has a fuse. The wires running from your starter switch to the starter relay, to the starter solenoid are the control wires. Now, you solenoid may be pulling too much current and causing the fuse to blow. I'd rule out everything else before I'd consider the solenoid. The only way to change that is a new starter and they aren't cheap.

Good luck

How to remove starter from ultra classic. engine in frame with exhaust hooked up.engine still assembled. will the primary have to be removed. battery disconnected.

Yes, The first thing you do is disconnect the battery ,,,Harley says to pr3vent accidental starts, but if you dont, your going to short something out..... You are going to have to remove the outer primary to get to the jackshaft. Disassemble and pull the jackshaft then you can unbolt and remove the starter ,,,,,
