Hello Brad...every brand has there own valve clearance to follow, you might contact Husqvarna distributor in your place, for sure they know it.You can play with it and you'll notice a noise or a smoke once your opening is not right.

Better make sure it isn't a no tolerance engine first. If it is, the pistons could have slapped the valves. This will bend the valves, break them, or punch holes in the pistons. I know the 4 cylinders are not tolerance, but not sure on the six cylinder. You can do a leak down test, but you have to basically pull the cams, So the valves are shut. Then put air pressure to each cylinder. If the cylinder is bad it will leak air(a lot) out of the throttle body, exhaust(out of the tail pipe) or into the crank case.

The 2.5 has zero tolerance between piston and values. I can rotate the crank with no problem. I think in is on TDC. If it is 180 degrees out would I be able to rotate the crank?


If there is zero tolerance between valves and pistons ( how did you measure it. (Head has to be on to get a reading) then I would say that there has been valve clash with the piston and the valves are bent. If that is the case then you will be able to turn the crank 360 degrees with little resistance.

How to timing and adjust valve tappet clereance


Remove the crankshaft tappet cap at the front of the motor and the timing inspection cap on the top right side of the rear cover.
Take off your valve covers.
Rotate the motor clockwise and align the TL mark with the pulsar index mark. Check that all the valves are loose on the left cylinder. The left cylinder must be at T.D.C. top dead center on the compression stroke.
At this time you can adjust your cam chain tension if you are not out fitted with an automatic cam chain tensioner (the cx650 automatic cam chain tensioner will fit in the manual tension models). Loosen the hex stud above the timing inspection hole and re tighten, done.

VALVE CLEARANCE
IN: 0.08 mm (0.003 in.)
EX: 0.10 mm (0.004 in.)

Adjust the valves on the left head first ("TL" mark). Loosen the lock nut, turn the screw until there is SLIGHT drag on the feeler gauge. It is very important that you do not over tighten the valves. The Rocker assembly floats on oil and will zero tolerance the valves all by itself. If you over tighten the valves it will push the rocker to one side and damage the rocker bearing/shaft. Hold the screw and tighten the lock nut . Recheck the valve clearances.
Rotate the crankshaft clockwise and align the "TR" mark on the rotor with the pulsar index mark. The right cylinder must be at T.D.C. at the compression stroke.Make sure all the valves are loose. Adjust the valves and recheck the tolerance after tightening.
Reassemble the motor.

Checking my valve clearances I found my rhs inlet was 0.22mm which is 0.07 above tolerance as stated in manual. Will it tighten as the valve seat wears or should I get shimmed? All others were in tolerence...


It will not get tighter ,try shimming . Valve clearance is allowing for heat exspansion .a extra large clearance is noisy and will not allow the valve to operate properly .too tight a clearance will not shut off the valves and cause exspansion loss in the commpresson stroke .And in some cases the piston may hit the valve.Resulting in a loss of power.A loose or large valve clearance is noisy and will give your enging a sluggish performance.

Broke timing belt,will this bend my valves


there is only one way to find out. That is to put a new belt on and hope for the best. You can't test anything with the belt off.

Other than removing the head the belt is your first choice.

Most of the time the valves do not bend.

Is the 98 trooper 3.5 engine a zero tolerance engine


All engines, be they gas, diesel, electric or aeronauticle, require a tolerance of certain specification as to allow for lubrication of moving parts. An engine can be considered zero tolerance when it has siezed. Please elaborate for me why this question comes to mind. Thank you, Dana

No compression!


this could have happened if the timing belt broke. You are supposed to change the timing belt every 60 to 90 thousand miles.

Exhaust valve stem hight above head?


Ask them grind some off the stem if they can.Many valves stems are hollow and filled with sodium to aid in cooling so the amount amount they can remove is limited,but they may be able to take some off to correct the problem. I would consider this a warranty situation regardless of what fix it requires.There are tolerances that must be adhered to when doing machine work and this is the result of not keeping within these tolerances.They should have used a new valve as it would have been thicker at the valve face.Whatever you do don't drive the car. You will burn the valve.

Timing chain jumped


if it is a zero tolerance engine there is the possibilty valve damage has occured, depends if you were driving the car and at what speed it happened
