If you did not have the noise before the service, guess what caused it, yep the service. So something was not done properly.
It almost sounds as if the primary chain has too much slack and is hitting the inside if the primary case when in de-cel mode.
I am thinking that the primary chain tensioner has been improperly re-installed or damaged.

How do I replace the voltage regulator on an ultra classic harley davidson

Voltage regulator on an Ultra Classic is "plug and play"......usually located on the front of the frame for airflow....simply follow the wire to the left side primary and unplug it from the stator plug which is in the case. Unbolt the the regulator and replace with a new one...coat the plug with dielectric grease to stop moisture and your done.

My 03 ultra classic is leaking trans fluid they say its a $1 dollar o ring that cost about $600 to fix?

First off, determine if it's transmission fluid, or primary chain case fluid.
I had the seal on the transmission main shaft go on me once (the seal under the transmission rear drive pulley, behind the inner primary cover).
This can be changed with the transmission still in the bike, but the entire primary needs to come apart, and the transmission sprocket/pulley removed to access it.

If it's primary fluid, it's probably the seal on the inner primary case that the transmission shaft runs through and that the clutch assembly bolts to.
Again, the entire primary needs to be torn down to access this.

Either way, the cost of the part isn't bad, but the labor is the killer, as it's a 6-10 hour job, if I remember the book's quote.

I have a 2007 ultra, I have noise coming from the primary when bike is in neutral and clutch lever is out, when Ipull in lever the noise stops

Pull the cover off and check the clutch, you might have a broken spring, or bad clutch plate. Rubber belt or chain? If it's a chain it could be loose and you need to adjust the tension.

Hi Anguscompton, I'm sorry but I just loaned my listening ears to the lead technician at your local Harley Dealer so he could take your bike for a test ride and evaluate the noise. Have a nice day.

2008 road king classic I have a tick sound on left side?

Does it sound like a chain noise, coming from the primary case?

In 2007, Harley changed the primary chain tension adjuster to an "automatic", spring loaded one, that doesn't work very well.

You can bolt in an older manual adjuster, BUT the area that USED to be an inspection/access cover on the outer primary cover is now a solid area, so you'd have to remove the outer primary cover everytime you adjust the primary chain.

There are some aftermarket "automatic" adjusters out on the market.

I have a 01 ultra classic with a rattling sound coming from the lower left side of the engine. was told I might need to adjust the primary chain or the timing chain. any hints on what to check?

Does the sound come even when the bike is stalled and you accelerate it? If yes, then it must be timing chain and in case the noise comes only when the bike is moving, it must be the primary chain.

Starter removal on 2004 ultra classic harley davidson

Disconnect battery , remove the outer primary case, pull back the lock tab on the starter jackshaft, unbolt the retainer screw, then remove the two starter bolts from the right side, sometimes you need to loosen the oil tank mounts to get at these, slip the starter and coupler out as a unit, replace the coupler and jackshaft the same way they came out when the new starter goes in, install bolts , retighten the jackshaft bolt and bend over the retainer, install and fill primary case, connect battery thats it buddy

I have a 2004 Ultra Classic with 26K on it as I was riding it today it developed a very loud clunking noise from the motor, any idea what has happened to it.

Could be a loose compensator nut. Holding the front brake with the bike in gear, slowly release the clutch lever to see if you can recreate the clunking noise right there. It will be on the front left of the primary cover. If you can hear it ( and you might be able to feel it too ) then that is the route I would go.
