1994 DR650 Brake Lighting problems

Both brake and running lights are on when key is in the on position for a 1994 Sukuzi DR650 Enduro. The ignition has a running light only circuit and it only illuminates the running light. so they aren't shorted together somewhere... I am DESPERATELY trying to find a schematic for this bike. Both handle and foot switches work as they should (multimeter verified)

You will need to remove the gas tank, air box, and possibly some hoses to get to the plug. Not a hard task, just time consuming on a newer bike.

SOURCE: just bought a 2001 vs800 intruder, got it home and will not start

If you're getting no lights then it is either the ignition switch or the battery is not making connection. Check the battery with a multi-meter. Check the fusebox with a multi-meter, any power to any fuses there with key on?

Check the wiring connections to the front brake switch. If all OK, then it could be the switch.

3rd brake light works only with key in accessory position? not in on or car running?

There are several possible reasons why the 3rd brake light on your 2005 Chevy Malibu works only with the key in the accessory position and not when the car is running.
  1. The brake light switch: The brake light switch is responsible for turning on the brake lights when the pedal is depressed. If the switch is malfunctioning, it may not be sending the signal to the brake light when the key is in the "on" or "start" position.
  2. Electrical issue: An electrical issue with the wiring or a connection in the brake light circuit could be preventing the brake light from turning on.
  3. The Body Control Module (BCM): The BCM controls various electrical functions in the car, including the brake lights. A malfunctioning BCM could prevent the brake light from turning on.
  4. The Brake Light Relay: The relay could be defective and not allowing power to reach the brake light when the key is in the "on" or "start" position.
  5. The code PO573 that is coming up is related to the brake light switch, it could be a symptom of the problem.
  6. The cruise control not working can also be related to a problem with the brake light switch.

1994 del sol turned off ignition and brake lights stay on

Brakes lights work regardless of ignition position. Check the brake light switch (behind brake pedal). Could be stuck in on position.

Ignition key will not unlock

Check your brake lights for lighting up. Some models require a foot on the brake pedal or clutch to allow for the interlock to release the ignition switch.

The Drivers feet commonly hit the switch mounted on the brake pedal lever and either break it or knock it out of position. You need a signal from this part to release the ignition or shifter.

In order to put my 1994 lincoln towncar in gear i have to turn the ignition and gear stick at the same time. then the stick is pulled into neutral then i can start car and put in drive..whats wrong with my...

Sounds like the "shift lock actuator". It's a common Ford/Lincoln problem. It's basically a safety device to ensure the car is turned on and your foot is on the brake b/4 you can place the car into gear. Here is a gr8 piece describing the problem
" This is a problem with the Shift Interlock System and not the transmission. Bet you're glad to hear that. The Shift Interlock System requires the key to be in the "RUN" position and the brake pedal depressed in order to shift out of "PARK". This is to prevent possible vehicle runaway. There are a couple of possibilities here. The first is the Brake Pedal Position (BPP) switch. You can usually tell if this is bad if you have no brake lights at all. Another possibility is a bad Shift Lock Actuator or Shift lock solenoid, located under the console.
First thing to do is check fuses 28 and 32 in the fuse box, if you haven't already done so, and make sure they are good.
78584194.gif To check the BPP switch, check for power at the light green/red and light green wires with a test light with the key in the "RUN" position and the brake pedal depressed. If you have power there, then check for power at the light green wire at the Shift Lock Actuator.
78185284.gif f you have power at the light green wire at the Shift Lock Actuator, ground the black wire. If you hear a click, then you have a bad ground and it needs to be repaired. If not, the Shift Lock Actuator is bad and needs to be replaced."

I hope this give you a better understanding and I wish you the best of luck with your problem.
