Ford maverick 1993 petrol wont start its getting petrol and good spark but just wont fire up anyone can help me?

check for your fire (spark) from the coils, you have to have spark, fuel and air for an engine to run, if you have fire make sure you have fuel pressure

To start you need 3 things spark, petrol and timing! Check the timing!

should be about 41/2 QT .use your dip stick to get it to full mark

98 so its a older vehicle ?? Well i know nothing about layout of this american vehicle but for its age check the fuel rail as on the end is a vacumn controlled valve so make sure its connected and the vacumn pipe isnt cracked or perished ,Anything else i have no idea sorry dont see these motors here in spain very often unless its on a imported camper van but these are normally all diesel ,have seen a 7.2 litre ford E350 petrol though but running on a gas conversion

either your fuel pump relay or the safety shut off switch

it sounds like you are 180 out on the distributor try pulling it out and turning the rotor to the opposite side and putting it back in. the #1 cylinder will hit tdc twice for every time it fires the plug you are probably hitting it on the wrong tdc stroke.

make sure fuel is going to engine from injectors, you can try by adding carburetor cleaner to intake and crak it, if it runs for a little be then ijectors are not firing, some times the ignition module to control the spark will keep the injectors from firing

there is a kill swith on the escorts its a factory fit thing they put them in the boot or down by your feet hid behind the plastic trim it looks like a black box about the size of a tab box with a red button on the top when u find it push it in and this should sort the prob i had the same prob on my cabby when i lowerd and that is what it was hope this helps
