I have a 1987 pointiac Fiero. It has the 2.5L 4

I have a 1987 pointiac Fiero. It has the 2.5L 4 cyl motor in it. I did an oil change including the filter and my owners manual had no guidelines for how much oil to put back in it. The service manual i have (pontiac shop Manual) said 3 quarts with the filter. However after i finished it the oil level only comes up to the Low mark on the dipstick. Am i reading the manual wrong? How much oil does it need?

It gives 3 quarts just as a starting point, it says this for the 4-cyl and 6-cyl, just so you don't overfill it. The distance between the two marks/notches on the dipstick represents 1-quart. If it's exactly on the low mark, then add 3/4 of a quart and see where it ends up, should be about 3/4 of the way to the other notch. Don't add quarts at a time, overfilling your oil can be just as bad or worse than if you underfill it. You'll be breaking oil seals all over....not good! :)

Fiero oil

On some 4 cyl models, the oil filter is in the bottom of the oil pan. It is a large round metal plate with a nut in the middle.
Removing the filter also drains the oil. It can be very messy.

I have a 1987 pointiac Fiero. It has the 2.5L 4

if you've added the oil and started the car and the oil level is at the add mark with the engine off, allowing a minute or so for the oil to drain back down to the oil pan, add 1 more quart
