This may be off the wall ... clutches do wear and need adjustment ... your bike is almost 30 years old ... has it been serviced recently? Might be worth a trip to the Yamaha Shop.

You may need to lubricate the bearings on the deck or change them out.

When stopped gears sometime grind when shifting into 1st gear(2001 Ford Focus)

Then the clutch is not releasing properly & the continual
grinding will wear the gear teeth & you may also have worn
syncros, that will require you to pull the trans & go thru it, as well
as do a clutch replacement

Clutch was replaced a year ago and now when i push the clutch it wont allow me to change gears and it sounds like an air pump

Hi,
That sounds like you have a problem in the pressure plate! Go to the nearest garage and pull down the transmission to replace the clutch assembly. But if you could get the warranty from the one who replace the clutch, inquire about it. Mostly the mechanic would replace the clutch assembly( clutch disc, pressure plate, and release bearing ). So that it will be a one time job.
Either you could tow your vehicle to the nearest garage or drive it( before starting the engine put the gear to 1st and let it start, slowly at 1st gear you could drive into the nearest shop ).
Hope that helps you out!
thanks for using FixYa!

Whinning noise from engine when changing gear went to pull off in 1st gear car stalled and now cannot engae gears is this just the clutch cable or something else

Hi, I think the noise you were getting while changing gear is most likely to be the clutch release
bearing ( as you press the clutch down the release bearing contacts the clutch pressure plate
fingers ).
The whinning noise is the bearing seizing up,
Unfortunately it looks like yours has damaged the fingers of the pressure plate so the clutch is not disengaging to allow you to select a gear.
A clutch kit will need to be fitted this contains clutch plate, pressure plate, release beaing
I hope this dos`nt turn out to be to expensive for you

How to drive?

you can ride the cluthch on a bike un like a car you wont hurt it its oil lubricated constantly, sitting on the bike pull the clutch in with your left hand and click the left foot lever down in to 1st, then learn how to click it back up 1 half movement in to neutral. the neutral light will come on sfter the bike enters neutral. in first gear give the throttle on the right hand a squeeze and pull the clutch in with your left hand put foot gear selector down in to 1 st and begin to release clutch slowly. hold on as bike will engage may be jerky balance yourself! when you get moving stop! by pulling the clutch in and the hand brake as you close the throttle to stop! practice your take off many times some where safe! when you get your balance in 1st gear pick up speed and begin shifting the foot gear selector up in to 2nd gear and practice closing the throttle and breaking to a safe stop. gears are generslly 1st down 1 click 2345 and6th all up from there and neutral is 1 half a click up from 1st between 2nd gear. And dont put it in gear with the kick stand down t may stall on you

hope this helps

1997 Yamaha YZF 1000 clutch and/or transmission problem?

well this is something that is as you said " not normal" i would guess that clutch is smoked. after it warms up do a 3rd gear roll on at about 45 mph. if you drop the hammer and the motor revs and you don't go anywhere stop the ride and R&R your clutch
something else to make sure of is that you clutch fuild is good and has no air in the line
Good luck

I have a yz 125 with a rebuilt motor i put the nuw motor

A very common problem with wet clutches is that many folks do not use the correct oil. The plates in the clutch are sandwiched under spring pressure and there is nothing in the mechanism to release them, so if the oil creates too much "stiction" then the plates can become suctioned together.

I suggest first trying an oil change using an oil designed for use with wet clutches. Then, get a running start, hop on the bike and drop it into gear. Then pull in the clutch and while holding the clutch lever in, rev the motor to break the plates loose. If this fails after a few attempts, your plates could be rusted together - possibly from a leaking waterpump seal or a ride through deep water. A simple tear-down of the clutch will tell the tale and this can be done without buying any parts if you are careful.
