How to locate the starter on my 2005/2006 yamaha R1


First gain access to your battery. Follow the positive cable to the starter solenoid which also hols the main fuse. From there, it continues to the starter.

Hi just got a question about the starter relay do you have a wiring diagram off what wires connect to the M & B on the starter relay as mine is clicking and wondering if wired incorrectly.

2006 yzf-r1 wont start. Starter wont kick on. fuses are all good. please help


load test the battery. not just check for voltage. a battery can have 12vdc but no amperage.

Clicking noise when starting


Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Your description could be any of 2 possibilities:
  • starter relay/solenoid; and/or
  • starter motor.
To determine which, jump the 2 bog terminals of the starter relay when starting the bike; if the motor turns, the relay/solenoid is defective; if the starter motor does not turn, the starter motor is defective (most likely the carbon brushes).

To determine the location of the starter relay/solenoid, follow the clicking sound and would look like the image below.
