If it has been sitting for a long time and you thought it has siezed, its possible the rings are stuck in the piston grooves. but if it is just a petrol problem try spraying some start fluid in the air cleaner and see if it fires. This may help find if you need to pull the barell off and fit new rings. They also had habit of carboning up the exhaust port in the barrel, and carbon building up in the tail pipe

I obtained a pair of Yamaha YST MS50 speakers with no subwoofer. Can they be adapted to use a different sub, such as the inexpensive Yamaha YST MSW5? The clear problem is in different cabling.

The speakers will not power up?

if your computer came with a motherboard disc the sound drivers could be on it
you might have to uninstall then reinstall both the sound drivers and the sound card make sure you have both of these devices backed up to a disc before uninstalling
a yellow? question mark means you need to install/update driver to do this
right click to install driver also
click start control panel administrive tools computer management device manager scroll to sound, video and game controllers you might see a yellow question mark? Right click to reinstall drivers
click start control panel sounds and audio, volume, advanced, speakers select appropriate speakers also audio you will find 3 drop down lists make sure you have made the correct adjustments there

click start control panel sounds and audio devices you can adjust the volume there also select speaker volume you can make adjustments there you can also tick in the box place icon in taskbar
hope this helps

Someone gave me a YST-MS50. The left speaker (no controls) does not work. It is not the speaker or the cable from the main unit to that speaker. I find that only 7 of the 8 wires in the 8 pin cable going...

Will the woofer work without the other two speakers?

There is no point.
The woofer(sub woofer) just delivers the bass. You usually put the sub woofer out of the way under your desk.
Without the other speakers you would just get the thumping bass and no treble

I can't find my adapter (12v yamaha-model-yst-m7) , and I would hate to have to trash them. Can you help?

Hello

You will be able to buy yourself a multi-adapter at nearly any electrical store near you.

This is a very handy device, as it has numerous adapter heads, and aperages and voltages you can set it to accommodate the specific device. Go to your nearest electrical store, ask an assitant, and you will be sorted.

Best of all, this cost round about $10, so it is cheap as well.

Hope this can be of help.

Kind regards
Andrea

Yamaha YST-MS50...how does it work ??

I have a YST-MS30 myself. Judging by Yamaha's site, the MS50 looks like it's built pretty much the same way. The subwoofer by itself is pretty useless. The power switch and volume controls are built into the right satellite speaker. There is a level control for the subwoofer, but overall system volume is controlled by the satellite speaker. You also need the power supply (15 volts, 1.2 amps for the MS30, but probably different ratings for the MS50 with its higher power).

Actually, it would be possible to open the subwoofer and puzzle out which pins in the connector you would need to jumper together to turn it on, and you might be able to find a suitable power supply. But it seems like more trouble than it's worth. Complete new system with comparable specs are around $100 from online vendors.

Lost the wire that goes from the control speaker cube of my yst-ms50 to the computer audio output. Were can I get a replacement wire? What should I ask for?

you should be able to get a replacement at any computer or electronics store (best buy, radio shack etc.) -

just tell them what you told us - one end (the one going to the speaker) is probably an rca jack while the other (going to the computer) is a standard audio input (3.5mm plug)

Yamaha YST-MS50 speakers to my i Mac.

You can connect the Yamaha YST MS50 speakers to any audio source that relies on a 3.5mm jack. The YST MS50 should have two audio inputs, so you can use one of them to connect the speakers to your computer. If you don't have a 3.5mm male to male cable, then you can buy that at any electronics store or online.
