Question about 1985 kawasaki ZL 900 A1 Eliminator

1 Answer

I just bought a 86 Eliminator from a guy who said the motor is locked up. I seems true but when I put it in gear I can"t push the bike with the clutch in. Could I have a problem with the clutch? 9000 miles on the bike and garage kepted.

The clutch may be frozen in place. try disengaging the clutch, sit on the bike, and rock it back and forth and hard as possible. this may dislodge the clutch plates. it usually happens if the bike has sat for a while

I have 20hp mercury in neutral can rev high but when in gear full throttle it's like trolling speed

Take the cover off and check that the throttle linkages are all secured to the clips. May also be bad fuel, or moisture in the fuel. I use stabiliser over the winter. With a motor stored that long, it would be prudent to get it professionally serviced.

97 roadking wont go into gear while engine is not running and in neutral, starter just spins

The starter clutch needs to be replaced. An alternator sgop will usually rebuild these for 1/2 of a new one. .A thumbs up would be greatly appreciated if this answer is helpful to you. Good Luck.

97 roadking, not going into gear, starter just spinning while bike is in neutral, in gear bike just free-wheeling push the starter and bike lurches forward but then starter just spins

Hi Rod, sounds like your starter drive is going south. I'm sorry you can't find the first and very best tool your Road King ever needed, but don't despair for a mere $6.50 you can download another one at the website below:

Zl900 eliminator starts and runs good. when i put it into gear (with the side stand up)the motor shuts down.

Hi
It sounds like the side-stand switch is not working - check for continuity across it & for any bad contacts or broken / crushed wiring also

Had trouble finding a sparkplug cap for my 86 zl-900. I put in a different cap, but it doesn't seal the sparkplug chamber and my bike has a hesitation when I hit the throttle? Also, how much oil do I need...

GPZ900 spark plug caps fit fine & are easier to get hold of, but get genuine!
3 litres with a filter change, 2.7 without

Hope this helps (if so please mark as helpful !!)

I have a 2001 kawasaki 125 eliminator shuts off

If it dies when put into gear then its the side-stand switch (stand is down or switch not working)
If it dies when the clutch lever is released then either it was released too quickly with not enough revs, the engine doesnt have enough power to pull away or possibly the clutch switch is working in reverse

Good Luck
Hope this helps.

Harley davidson evo motor wont turn over...just clicks

Pull the spark plugs out and hit the starter. This will make sure that the engine is not locked up. If the starter does not turn the engine, put the bike in first gear and have someone push you, making sure the engine is free. If the engine is OK, your starter is probably jammed and needs replaced. That wire getting hot is a dead giveaway something is locked up tight...starter or engine. If ya have a large hi-performance engine in the bike, chances are your stock starter won't do the job.

'95 Yamaha YZ 125 clutch - stays in gear when clutch is pulled in

the plates will stick to each other because of oil
check the clutch lever at the motor and make sure it is moving the arm that pushes the pressure plate and make sure it is moving
