Question about 1989 Honda CB 1

Open Question

What is the proper carb float height for a 1989 Honda CB-1

I need to check and possibly adjust the float height on my 1989 Honda CB-1 (400F) but I don't know what the proper setting is. Can someone tell me what the proper height should be?

Yes. They seal the threads etc to stop air being sucked in and messing up the idle mixture.

Hi, Anonymous and the usual suspects are:
1. Damaged or restricted fuel tank venting system.
2. Loose float bowl screws.
3. Damaged float bowl o-ring.
4. improper fuel level in the float bowl.
5. Worn or dirty inlet valve or seat.
6. Damaged or leaking float assembly.
7. Particle contamination in inlet fitting cavity.
8. Damaged petcock diaphragm allowing fuel to flow through the vacuum line into the combustion chamber.
9. Contaminated fuel tank.

Problem with starting my bike

Sticking floats or worn float valve needles or incorrect float height, tap float bowls to see it overflow stops (sticky float), remove and clean float bowls and fuel inlet passage with carb cleaner and compressed air, check float valve for wear to the rubber tip. Reset float height by slightly bending the metal tab on the float to adjust the closing height of the valve measure from the carb bowl mating surface to the top of the float when fitted then re adjust 1mm at a time higher untill fuel doesnt over flow.

Fuel overflowing from one carb

The motorcycle has most likely been in storage with untreated gas left in the carb(s). This can lead to clogged jets and a stuck float causing it to flood. If this isn't the case then it's possible that the float height adjustment is improperly set and causing the flooding. Which ever the case to properly correct the situation is to remove clean and adjust the carb.

float needle valve worn, floats can be fuel soaked causing the float needle valve not to close, may need float height adjustment, either case a carb clean rebuild will help.

Were the jets the same size? Just because the numbers were the same does not assure you that someone has not used a jet drill to enlarge them. Pull the low speed jets and compare them with the old ones, using a wire gauge or set of number drills.

Need to know the flote height for a 1968 honda motorcycle 350

Hi! I presume you have a Kei Shein carburettor set up? if so there really isnt a float height as such, if you are experiencing flooding or fuel spewing out of the rear aperture it is more likely the float needle/valve is either worn or has foreign matter stopping it from shutting out the fuel supply.
When you take the float bowl off and look at the float you'll see at the end under a tang a tiny spring around the tang which is attached to the float needle careful removal will reveal all for servicing.
O.K. penny dropped? do you mean Needle Jet? if so try middle to start and check plug colour after good run, remember raising richens the mixture lowering weakens. Trial & error I'm afraid as mileage, wear and fuel quality all determine final result?
Good luck!
