Hi!
From your brief description It sounds like you are experiencing Crank Case pressure build up.
I presume your ZZR is of High mileage or possibly previous owners havn't serviced it regularly.
The problem being the compression Piston Rings wear and allow Blow Back gasses into the crank case there by building up pressure, this in turn sends an oil film up the breather tube to your air box resulting in your problem.
You could try an oil & filter change (Synthetic) Top jolly with maybe an additive plus similar for the fuel i.e. Red-Ex or similar, it may help but I doubt a cure.
If you want you could extend the breather pipe away from the box into a drip can or similar, be sure to filter it as you don't want to get contamination down in the cases.

mine does the same thing ive been told its normal just keep an eye on oil level but make sure engine is warm before checking it other wise it wont read properly on dip stick

Just a possibility, i found this worked on some cars with similar problem (at least reduced the amount of oil going up the pipe)

Add a (bit at a time) bottle of STP oil treatment, the thick gooey stuff, it should increase the surface tension of the oil, keeping it in one piece, not splitting up and splattering around --> thus being less readily exhaled up the blow-off pipe.
just a thought. this will also increase the compression a little since it thickens the oil, will take up a little wear too coz it likes to cling on to bearings.

a small amount of oil from the crankcase vent hose under hard acceleration is most likely normal.American bikes don't leak oil,they mark their spot!

On a revtech 110 why is oil blowing out the breather tubes and head?


Hi, Chasity oil leaking from your air cleaner is caused by oil carryover from the engine. For whatever reason, the breather system is not separating enough oil mist and air from the piston downstroke. There are cheap and quick easy fixes and there are more expensive ones. First, make sure your breather hoses are not dry and cracked if they are ok you can start by trying the following:
1. Run your oil level half way between the add and full mark when hot.
2. Run oil breather lines from the head into a TEE fitting below carb/induction module then a single line into a mini filter under the frame.
3. Purchase Arlen Ness Super Sucker.
4. Replace umbrella valves and realign oil pump.
5. Upgrade oil pump and cam plate.

Mac2400 leaking air at oil breather hole


I have read both your questions and after taking both into consideration it sounds like it needs new piston rings. On a gas engine it is called blow by but both have a piston with rings on them, as they wear the end gap gets bigger and bigger allowing compressed air to bypass the rings into the crankcase where the oil is, the breather is there to allow air from the room to enter and exit as the piston goes up and down to avoid pressure or vacuum in the crankcase, the air on the top side of the piston is supposed to go into the tank but in your case some of it is going around the piston rings and into the crankcase building pressure and blowing oil out. There is not much inside a compressor like a gas engine, taking the head off and the oil pan should let you take off the connecting rod bolts and push the pistons out the top. This answer is based on the two comments of cant build all the air pressor and it is blowing oil out the crankcase breather. If you hit the 80 psi and unplug the compressor can you hear air coming from the limit switch box that the power cord goes into ? I will wait for your answer to continue.

Oil leak from my SSangyong Rexton 2.7XDI continues to be a problem


drain /remove the oil until the correct level is obtained on the dip stick for starters . Next the "O" ring seal on the side of the box at the harness should be fitted with the use of a sealant ( locktite blue or red) in to a dry hole and allowed to skin . Incorrect fluid levels will cause the oil to aerate and flow out of any breather holes and will pressurize the transmission placing a strain on any seal .

I have 1998 fatboy leaking oil out of air breather i have replaced breather valve umbrella valves drilled out the holes on top but still leaking


Do you have the rubber tubes going from hollow breather bolts into the intake opening of the induction system??

Do you possibly have worn out compression rings???

If the instructions do not give you an answer to your question and you can't find any information from the manufacture I would proceed as follows. The oil coming out of the breather is due to the splashing of the oil and the heating of the parts as they work building up pressure. I would tend to believe that as long as there is some coming out there is enough oil to take care of the gearbox.
If there is a separate plug to remove to add oil to the gearbox I would use that as my fill level. I hope this helps.

Model 331877 briggs fuel pump leaks oil out vent


I just got done repairing the very same engine with the same syptoms that you mentioned. I had considerable oil coming out of the fuel pump breather hole (copper colored mesh). The source of the problem: a blown head gasket. This will cause the piston, in the compression cycle, to pressurize the crankcase through the head gasket leak into the valve lifter chamber and push oil out the vacuum tube (bottom hose) leading to the fuel filter . To fix, you will need to first disassemble the cylinder head from the engine. To do that you first need to disconnect the three hoses to the fuel pump. Remove the cover to the air filter, remove the air filter and the screw in the bottom of the filter housing. Remove the four bolts attaching the plastic flywheel cover and remove the cover., remove the cylinder head (8 bolts)and check the head gasket to confirm it is blown (you will probably see some dark brown or black discoloration of the head gasket between the cylinder and valve lifter chamber. Carefully remove all old head gasket material from the block and head surfaces and clean the head bolts. If either your cylinder head or block surface looks ugly, you may need to get them resurfaced (flatness tolerance is very small ) Buy a valve gasket set (contains the head gasket and other needed parts)
Remove the valve rocker arm cover (4 bolts) from the head. Mark the exhaust and intake lifter rods (they are different) Clean the combustion chamber. If your engine has many hours on it, you will want to remove the valves and check the valve rims and seats for wear or pitting. You may want to hand lap the valves to insure they are seating perfectly.
I coated my head bolts with an anti-sieze valve lube compound. The B&S service manual calls for this. Reassemble head and torque head bolts to 220 in.-lbs. (4 stages) Do very accurately. Compress valve springs, install push rods and set clearances between rocker arm and end of valve stem. Turn flywheel to move piston so that both valves are closed before setting clearances. install a new fuel pump on the plastic flywheel housing. I removed the breather from the top of the engine (two small screws) and checked the reed and oil drain hole, and resealed the breather cover (you will need to pull the flywheel to get to one of the breather screws. I used a gray high-temp rtv liquid gasket compound to reseal the rocker arm cover and breather body. Reassemble all parts and screws and use small torques as listed in Briggs Service manual. I put in a new spark plug, changed the oil and filter, and breather tube, and o-ring at the bottom of my oil filler tube. That should do it

CRF 450 Honda leaking oil through carburetor


it sounds like your valve/rocker cover to spark plug tube seal is folded over or something. My reason for saying this is, because the only place for oil to get into the plug tube is a bad seal to the cover or the spark plug isn't tight? and that hole is for expelling liquid so it doesn't cook the plug into the head

Hi there

You should not have oil leaking from the carby. If you have over filled it with oil, then it may be coming from the crankcase breather and then into the airbox, and appearing to come from the carby. If you have not over filled it, then the bike may have blowby problems with compression gasses passing the rings, and in a similar manner forcing oil out the crankcase breather. Not sure about the hole in the side of the cylinder... do you have a picture? Unless its pouring out, or gets worse, I would not be too worried. If you have over filled the oil, maybe time for an oil change to get the level right.
